Safari painfully slow on Mountain Lion; typing and

I just downloaded and installed Mountain Lion last night, and when I rebooted this morning, I've noticed that Safari is painfully slow. Text is getting dropped when I type, and scrolling is very jerky/jittery. Safari 6 was great on Lion; but this is hard to use.

Anyone else having similar problems?

Have you tried resetting Safari? I think it clears plugins, Extensions, and other things like browser history, cache, and cookies. Might be worth a look before you do anything more drastic.

I checked some extensions, and it was Safari Keyword Search. I had it installed to use DuckDuckGo instead of Google for searches (and in place of Glims), but that was the culprit.

I am having problems like this too but it is not limited to Safari. It happens in other applications too, although it is not happening all the time, which is very frustrating. The behaviour is similar to a machine that does not have enough processing power or memory and is "doing catch up".

My macbook pro had 8GB of memory and is only a few years old, it is not slow, the harddrive is not nearly full and has been defragged (yes, I know Mac's are not supposed to need it but thats a lie)

If anyone finds out a solution then please let me know. It is so frustrating.

It's recommended that one tries this first.

If this doesn't help, try to delete the "LocalStorage" folder in ˜/Library/Safari

I use Lion and had this problem. I tried with opera and it was significantly faster. It is now fine after I reset it. I suggest you do the same.

Does this reset affect the OSX keychain? It mentions stored passwords, but aren't those handled by the OS?

From what I understand, the Keychain links usernames and passwords. Safari handles knowing which pairs go into which pages by default. The reset clears the latter.

Then again, I could be totally off, because I know Keychain also has some site information stored as well.

But only usernames and passwords.

For example your email address and password for amazon.com or apple.com

by the way, did you update Safari?

current version for 10.8.5 is 6.1.3

Go into /YourHardDrive/Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.Safari.list and throw that into your Trash Can. Launch Safari again and go back into Safari's Preferences and reset your Safari settings again.
