Safari Reader?

What happened to Safari Reader mode? It no longer works, always greyed out on every site & page I visit. Also the icon is no longer visible in the url/ tab bar like it used to? I have to click on the 3-dots circle icon.

I haven’t noticed any issues with functionality, but I don’t like the steps it takes to get there. If you first visit a page, it’s easy to tap on the reader view, but if you exit reader view, the button you originally tapped is gone and now you have to tap on the menu in the address bar to get back to it.
