For 2 years Safari Offline Reading list is broken. For me it works 30% of the time and I have no idea what causes it.

All devices are on the same iCloud account. I’ve logged in, logged out, reset etc etc. Even had 12 months of support calls with Apple and this crappy system still doesn’t work reliably.

Sometimes it saves offline.
Sometimes it syncs across devices.
Most the time it doesn’t.

Just like the Text Replacement fiasco when will Apple fix this simple thing once and for all.

To test. Save a page on your iPad to the reading list. Wait a few minutes and turn your ipad and iPhone to flight mode. Then go the reading list on your ipad and iphone and try and view the saved page.

So this happens only when you are in flight mode? If you didn't switch to Flight Mode with the reading list be available?

Only happens in flight mode. But the whole idea of the offline reading list is it’s supposed to be available offline.

It works for some bookmarks about 5% of the time.

I get that, seems like a bug with flight mode. I am sure it's annoying and frustrating they haven't fixed it, but at least you know how to work around the issue. I think the problems is no one uses flight mode (IMO) so it may not be a high volume bug complaint from customers.

I guesss. Sadly I fly a lot and having all this offline stuff is really helpful.
I fly a lot too and I never put my phone in flight mode. There has never been any supporting research that shows that cell phones interfere with flight technology.

The flight mode isn’t the issue. When your device loses the mobile signal the reading list is unavailable.

That doesn’t seem to make sense. I thought the purpose of offline reading was to download it? Hence the “offline” claim. The OP says he spoke with Apple numerous times on the bug.

The idea is you visit pages you want to read later. From the menu you select add to reading list.

Then when you are offline (onboard an aircraft or on the tube etc) the saved web pages are viewable.

The problem is they aren’t.

PS I am the OP

Sorry about that. I was replying on my iPhone with my old man eyes. I thought someone else chimed in and was saying that your issue was the way it was supposed to work. I am not being helpful!

You are not crazy, Safari Reading List is incredibly unreliable. There seems to be no reason or pattern why things don’t work as they should. Sometimes everything downloads offline and other times nothing is available for offline reading no matter how much time I give it.
