Hi,

Since upgrading to Big Sur my safari has decided to automatically re-load web pages which are using "significant memory" without giving me any option as to whether or not I want it to happen...

This has caused quite a few issues in me losing work, for example, or re-loading a google meets page while I'm in the middle of a group call - so this really is NOT ideal. The only way around it is to use chrome, but that eats my battery life. I have 16GB or ram so a web page should not be an issue?

Is there any way to stop this happening?

Many thanks!!

I was watching a financial video on Rumble today. I had 4-5 tabs open, then I opened the Mail app. All was good then after 10-15 minutes I go back to the video which I was jumping into and out of and then I noticed the video had stopped and was back to 0 mins. I noticed the message at the top of the Tab saying that I had insufficient memory.

Come on Safari, my 2018 Mini has 32 freaking GB's of RAM and that's not enough? Wow just wow.

wonder what the deciding factor is? i personally want the page to automatically reload after that message... but have to do it manually every time (i have one site in particular where i get that message regularly).

will watch this thread, see if anyone can pinpoint what makes this happen (or not happen)...

This is ridiculous! Mine iMac Pro with 64GB memory and still facing this issues daily! I have submitted many files and feedbacks via their Feedback app and still these haven't fix it. Super annoying when work related tabs get unwanted reloaded!

Having the same issue recently but only with Disney+ so not sure if it's at the OS level or if Disney has done something differently recently with how their content is streamed. It's actually quite annoying having your movie/show just suddenly reload.

Other than that, Safari usage has been the same as far as I can remember - it's just with Disney+ and it's a very recent thing that has never happened to me before.

Same with Plex, when playing large files.

At first I thought it was only because the beta of Big Sur didn't have the memory management right yet (I got flashbacks to running the alpha of Mac OS 7.7); but it keeps happening every now and then.

I haven't tried this in other browsers as I don't want to mix my personal browsing and dev stuff.

I streamed Disney+ with Microsoft Edge, no issues. So it looks like it's a Safari issue and in my case, with just Disney+. Netflix does not give me any issues/errors.
