On some sites, it's perfect. On others, it's painfully terrible.

My system: http://note.io/YReHrc
My Safari extensions: http://note.io/XTVFd1

Here, for example, performance is absolutely terrible.
And here, it couldn't possibly be any smoother.

I just tried disabling all extensions, one by one, and page-loading times seem significantly reduced (another matter I'll have to investigate as well now!). Scrolling performance, however, does not seem affected.

On Google Chrome, I do not appear to have this issue. Or perhaps I do, but I never notice, while on Safari it regularly bothers me.

Am I the only one or do you have this problem as well?

The slow link is just a little bit laggy on my MBP Retina, running the iGPU. That should be caused by the pictures dynamically loading when they become visible.

Chrome is a little bit better on the same MBP.

That games site scrolls smoothly for me in Safari and Firefox, on a 13" rMBP.

10.8.3 is coming very soon with some graphics updates, so hopefully that will solve your problem.

Thanks!

You both have rMBP's. Not sure how representative that is of performance of non-retina MBP's. But it's something!

Also, good call on 10.8.3, Modernape. I hope that improves performance when it drops.

The game review scroll is jumpy on my 13" 2012 Air. NYT is smooth.

Fwiw, I'd bet the issue on mine is caused by that embedded Flash within the review. I'm sure if I disabled it the review would be smooth as silk.

The smooth scrolling is not only Safari related. Try http://www.gandul.info to see how good a long site can scroll, it also depends on stuff used on the site itself (javascript, flash for example).

I don't even have Flash installed for Safari, so that can't be it. I use Chrome when I need Flash.
