When I scroll down a page in safari then click a link once I go back to the previous page safari scrolls back to the top of the page is this normal? I would like the previous page to stay there I left off.

What if you right click the link to open it in a new tab instead? It's going to the top of the page because it's been refreshed.

I believe it might be website specific. Some places put me right back to where I was when I swipe back. Others send me back to the top of the page.

Swiping back gestures in iOS in safari

Yep as Cycom mentioned. This is on the specific websites. Best way to test this is on the Apple’s official website. Their technical setup of the site is awesome.

Happens for me too, no matter what site including apple.com. I am using ios 15 beta so reported a bug about it.

I’m now getting this when on Google Search. I search a topic, scroll to find a link, go to that page/site, swipe back to Google and it goes back to the top of the page. This just started happening to me about 2 weeks ago. Anyone know if there’s something I can do to “fix” this?

This is the fix: (older versions of iOS Safari didn’t have this very annoying problem).

Scroll down your first page to the link you want to click.
Then open the link by LAUNCHING IT IN A NEW TAB.

The new tab will open just like a new page but when you swipe it back to close it … you land on your first page exactly where you left it (not at the top).

Thanks! Currently, I have to long-press and choose open in new tab, so it’s a little annoying. But it’s better than springing back up to the top every time!!!

edit: And now my ignorant a$$ just learned to tap with two fingers to get another tab. I figured it’d be automatic since it’s an option in settings, but I guess I still have to use two fingers. Still much better!
