Hi

I have a MacBook Air (2020) and Safari seems to be slowing down the system. When Safari is first opened it works fine but getting more sluggish with use. This also seems to affect the rest of the system. Closing Safari gets rid of the problem and we reopened it it is fine but the cycle starts again and it gets more sluggish.

I have reinstalled Monterrey but it is still the same.

Any help much appreciated

when you say 'the rest of the system', what exactly seems slower? safari should not affect other apps. do you have any extensions running in safari? (ie an ad-blocker). and, as a simple workaround, you could download chrome (for example) and try that instead of safari.

am wondering if the system is having issues, and that affects safari... not the other way around. perhaps give us more details...

Check activity viewer. My guess is you are maxing out your ram.
8gigs ram on an M1 is a lot of room. i can have 12 sites open in safari, plus mail, notes, calendar, pages, affinity photo running... ETC, on my 2016 12" macbook... with 8 gigs ram, and no issues. the M1 should blow that away.

unless, of course, the OP has 40 youtube videos running at one time, plus netflix, hbomax, etc... all running movies... at the same time....

I can't spot anything obvious. I just left my MacBook for an hour, came back, whole system was unusable slow, closed Safari, everything immediately fixed.
