Safari taking for ever!!!

hi! finally a got my beautifull apple 12' PB.

ok i don't know much about OS x so im just playing with it ( to learn)
ok the issue im having is that like 10 minutes ago my safari was working fine loading pages really fast. i was downloading some Widgets from apple.com and now safari ain't opening or it takes for ever to open every page.

i have no idea how to solve this what i did was reset safari but it didn't solve the problem.

Sometimes when Safari gets buggy, just closing down and then reopen will help.

You could also try going into applications > Utilities > Disk Utility, then do a repair permissions.

What connection are you on?
Try trashing the safari prefs (spotlight "com.apple.safari" and see what you get in the preferences folder in the library folder)

try looking for an application called safari speed it speeds safari's page loading I had the same problem before and a friend told me that safari has some thing that slows loading for some reason, so download safari speed it's easy to use and it actually works.

thanks to everyone.

im using DSL and it was really fast before but now the home page takes OMG! long time to load.
i restarted the computer like 5 times and the same thing, im wondering if maybe the widgets caused this problem?.
im going to try the other steps when i'll get home.

and the problem really is that is not opening the pages i have to refresh the pages like 3 or 4 times in order to make them load completly. if i use my mom's laptop PC the pages open fast and fine and they use the same connection.



another question my PB came with iLife 05 installed but i didn't get any CDs for iLife. Should i call apple for the CDs or iLife is in the installation CD that came w/ PB.

Usually nested somewhere in the discs that come with your system.

I heard that too and after I installed it, it actually seem to slow down Safari ...

I wonder if this isn't an ISP thing.
This link will give you Cnets internet benchmark.
Run it with Safri IE5 and FireFox.

Run it a few times with each of the browsers and figure out the avrage DSL speed for each of them. (I know that browsers don't affect the speed of an external digital line, I am just trying to create a baseline.)

Now, if the load time is about the same for all three browsers, then your DSL line has issues. Trouble shoot with them and let them know that you have done all the normal trouble shooting, power cyceling the modem and the router, computer etc...

Edit- Safri as a stand alone is linked above, if you ever need to reinstall just Safri.

I've found Firefox renders some pages WAY faster (way faster!) than Safari. Especially long pages with tables for example. Give it a go!

Repair permissions before you try anything more drastic or time consuming.

Safari can also be pretty RAM hungry. You don't say how much you've got, but anything less than 512mb isn't really enough.

Safari is like dial up now!

Just installed Tiger (erase & install). I have put NOTHING back on and have done nothing but play with the widgets for abotu 5 minutes.

I have a cable modem and the speed used to be great, but now Safari is painfully slow - I'm using a 1.5 ghz powerbook & when I compared it to an 800 mhz ibook, it's like using dial up.

I ran some of the tests listed above. Then I tried a few things I read in the forums - repaired permissions, turned off RSS, restarted. Next, I ran the tests again. Here are my results:

test before/after (800 mhz ibook result)
CNET 1256/1207 (1554)
toast 1557/1357 (2244)
speed test 1165 down & 190 up/3366 down & 340 up (1434 d & 174 u)
your speed 16 mbs & 2032573 thruput/16.5 mbs & 2078299 thruput (6 mbs & 751650 thruput)

I don't really know anything about these tests - why are they so different? Does it even matter?

More importantly, how do I make Safari fast again? At this point I don't even want to us the internet anymore, its so aggravating!

Same Problem

Just installed Tiger, and Safari and any other internet app is painfully slow. Upgraded to 10.4.2 but same results.

Any suggestions?
