Safari Taking Too Long to Load Websites in 10.10.1

Safari has been snappy quick when I updated to Yosemite. Even more so than Mavericks.

It seemed okay with the 10.10.1 update, but the last couple of days it has totally slowed down to a crawl. This occurs on a random basis. It take forever to load a web page. My internet is fast so it's not that. Any thoughts on what I can do to fix this?

Mine was doing the same thing, and I read another thread that recommended clearing the cache. I cleared the cache (but not the history), and it fixed it. Pages now load almost immediately.

Clearing history can help as well.

For me, good compromise is to set "Remove history items" to "After one month". If I had not bookmarked something and or visited in a month, probably good bet can be removed from history.

Correct, because clearing history also clears the cache. Many people don't want to clear their history, and it is possible to clear the cache only by using the Develop button.

Hi, there!

I noticed the same thing. Safari was blazing fast, even more so with 10.10.1 - but all of a sudden, it started to be sporadically slow when opening a website.

I tried deactivating all extension, clearing the cache, but this doesn't really help.
If I've noticed correctly this happens when Safari is inactive for a few minutes and you then try to open a webpage. It takes about 10 seconds here to open it then.

The only way to speed this up was to hit the address in the address-bar twice. Its as if Safari is waiting for something to respond to it's request before actually opening the website.

Does anyone have an idea how to "really" fix this?

Correct, because clearing history also clears the cache. Many people don't want to clear their history, and it is possible to clear the cache only by using the Develop button.

I used Develop in the drop down menu in Safari and clicked on empty cache. It doesn't show you that it was done though.

Does using Develop menu work to clear cache the same as going into Finder and deleting cache in library under com.Apple.Safari?

I cleared history too even though I didn't want to. I'll see if this fixes it.

I have never deleted the cache file, so I can't answer for certain on that, but I would assume so. You could always look at the size of the file, clear the cache in the develop menu, and check the file size again. That should at least prove that it empties it.

I just know that it was mentioned in another thread as a solution, and it certainly resolved my issues. Before I cleared the cache, it would almost seem like Safari couldn't find the page, and would take 30 seconds or so for the progress bar to complete. Now, as soon as I hit a link, it is there.
