Safari vs Camino vs Firefox

Which one do you guys like the best and why?

And... is it true that Camino and Firefox have the same "engine" (I hope I got the term right...)? If so, does that mean pages will look identical in both browsers? And is it not necessarily to install both Camino and Firefox even if I am doing some web development?

I am asking because need to make sure the webpages I make load properly in ALL browsers, but I don't want to install too many programs on my computer if it's not necessary.
 
I'm a longtime Camino user, though I also use Safari sometimes. I have Firefox installed, but I don't use it--no need except in extremely rare cases where Camino isn't handling some fancy script or some such for some reason. In truth that hasn't happened in quite a long time, though.

But in answer to your question, since both Camino and Firefox use the Gecko engine, if it works in one it's pretty much assured to work in the other. It won't necessarily LOOK identical--they have slightly different ways of rendering text and widgets on the screen--but it will work.

I seriously doubt it's worth testing carefully in both, but you might give a look-see just to be sure. Generally if you're writing solid, compliant code Safari, Camino, Firefox, Omniweb, and anything else that respects standards will render it acceptably unless you're getting VERY fancy. It's that disaster called IE that's the real issue--ooh, how I despise IE.
 
i use Camino all the way. light, simple and fast, could use a couple more features still, yes. i wouldn't mind a built in RSS reader, nor built-in spell check, but these aren't killers for me.
 
I find that Camino is somewhat of a resource hog, specificially processor-wise. I may be wrong. Also, Camino SUCKS IMO when displaying a video or other media. I only use it to check Hotmail, because Safari doesn't like the live.com thing.

i've had problems with neither. its actually less of a 'hog' than Safari and renders pages faster. and i've hd no issues playing any media so for, but you're milage may vary. i've been using it for two years now i think without misshap.
 
i've go through this debate about every few months. Safari is fast as far as scrolling and loading times go. however it sucks when I want to watch a large quicktime video. While everyone says camino is fast, its always really slow for me as far as load times and scrolling, however it does seem to render as fast. Firefox is inbetween the other two for me, but I don't like the look of it that much, as far as the buttons, text fields and drop downs go.
 
My vote goes to FIREFOX

I`d go with firefox. I was using safari at first. It seems fine but didnt display sites like Gmail and eBay correctly. I`ve been using Firefox only on my MB and still havent found a site/page where it doesnt work. Also it helps when I sometimes go to the Dark n Dangerous XP partition of my MB. Using the same browser in both OS is a little more comfortable than using two different browsers IMO.
 
Not that this suggestion was asked in the question, but I have found that Opera is my favorite.

It is very fast and handles almost everything perfect. I am running a 9.0 Beta.
 
another vote for firefox, im currently using it on all 3 computers we have at home. It has (so far) rendered everything perfectly and the extensions and plug-ins allow you to customize it far beyond other browsers.
