For those curious whether chrome uses alot of battery life or not.
I recently conducted a small test to compare "battery remaining" results from activity monitor. To make it as accurate and fair as possible I used the same website, same time duration and same scrolling behaviour for each browser..
Soo..
Hardware: Macbook Pro M1 (16gb ram, 1tb ssd)
Software: Safari and Chrome
Time tested: 5 minutes each.
My battery was at 42% when I conducted the test. (The level should be irrelevant)
Total battery life left after 5 minutes of browsing a local news website on SAFARI: 6,34 hours
Total battery life left after 5 minutes of browsing a local news website on CHROME: 5,36 hours
________
So according to these results we can see that chrome makes you lose at least an hour of battery life by using it.
