For those curious whether chrome uses alot of battery life or not.

I recently conducted a small test to compare "battery remaining" results from activity monitor. To make it as accurate and fair as possible I used the same website, same time duration and same scrolling behaviour for each browser..

Soo..

Hardware: Macbook Pro M1 (16gb ram, 1tb ssd)

Software: Safari and Chrome

Time tested: 5 minutes each.

My battery was at 42% when I conducted the test. (The level should be irrelevant)

Total battery life left after 5 minutes of browsing a local news website on SAFARI: 6,34 hours

Total battery life left after 5 minutes of browsing a local news website on CHROME: 5,36 hours

________

So according to these results we can see that chrome makes you lose at least an hour of battery life by using it.

In my opinion, the test results are not definitive because the results are based on battery values that are nothing more than estimates. The results don't show actual battery usage for each browser for the 5 minutes.
