Has anyone solved this? I can play You Tube videos on all my other browsers no problem - Firefox, Chrome and Opera. I'm up-to-date on Sonoma and Safari and using a 2019 21.5 iMac. Rebooting Safari and clearing browser history makes no difference.

Have you checked ad blockers or extensions? YouTube plays fine on Safari, so it's not the app.

I've never had a problem with Safari playing YouTube videos. I'm watching one right now.

You said you have other browsers that you use...
So, use a browser that works.
(I waste multiple hours on U-tube each day, and I have nothing to offer about why youtube vids might not work in Safari.
Do you get an error, or popup of some kind? Does anything happen at all when you try a video in Safari?

you got it! It's Little Snitch. I have to turn it off to run You Tube on Safari. Thanks for reminding me!
