Ok so as title really.

My 2007 imac running El Capitan with a HDD runs safari buggy/laggy.

On same machine firefox is fine.

Facebook seems be biggest issue but it's main use for my machine in evenings.

Many beachballs with safari and almost none when using firefox.

I'd rather use safari due to firefox using 3 times the ram of safari.

I have a 2015 MBP and have used Safari, Firefox and Vivaldi. Safari is the worst of the 3 in terms of page loading speed, noticeably so. Still, I begrudgingly use it due to it's iCloud integration and ability to use Apple Pay.

Yes but with Safari, you launch and then have time to brew a cup of coffee....when you have your coffee...the home page is there...usually.
