Since upgrading to Sierra, the system will not let me remove Safari since '...it is needed by MACOS...'. I prefer to use another browser because Safari is not compatible with some web sites I need, but when I initiate a web search, it uses Safari. How to correct this?

I've dumped Safari although it's still on my computer. With Sierra, I'm now using "Opera" which is very snappy compared to Safari. I've selected Opera as my default browser and that's the one that comes up. I have it paired with 1Password and when I select a website from 1Password, Opera pops up immediately. I think Opera runs on top of Chrome, but not sure about that.
