MP 1,1-5,1 Safe boot without boot screen?

Sorry, I'm having a brainfade - Can you start in safe mode on High Sierra, with the non-bootscreen rx580? If you're just holding down shift, will it eventually bring up the login screen (and is that supposed to take more than 5+ minutes)?

Yeah, but I didn't want to get stuck in it if the machine was going to sit with no display output at the login screen... That was the part I couldn't remember, if the login screen comes up ok with non efi GPU in safe mode.
