Safe mode

Hi - trying to diagnose some issue with sleep with my Mac and went to boot into safe mode. Needless to say I couldn't get into safe mode. Kept flashing on and off. Any idea? MacBook Pro i5 2020.

I had the exact same issue with Ventura on my MBP 2020 (Intel i7). Weirdly enough, upgrading to Sonoma on that machine fixed the issue, but I traded in the MBP for a 2023 M3 Pro and don't have any issues with Safe Boot at all.

Thanks. I reinstalled Ventura on a separate volume. Needless to say safe mode works. Must be bugs still in sonoma?

Yep. Same issue.

I can attest to that because earlier this year, when I had the same issue with Ventura, I tried doing an in-place full reinstall of macOS, but that didn't fix the issue. Later, when I upgraded (actually did a clean install) to Sonoma, that fixed the issue.

I suspect it's some kind of odd provisioning issue with Intel/T2 that's not present on Mx Macs. The provisioning issue must still be present in Sonoma, but it seems to appear randomly here and there. 🤷🏻‍♂️
