Safe to buy a MBP 15' now?

I was wondering if it is safe on the hardware front to purchase a 15' 2.4 ghz MBP now?

My powerbook is amazingly slow, has a crack on the screen, the DVD drive is bust, and the D.C. import is warped (plus i no longer have Apple care, it is 3 1/2 years old). I planned on buying a new MBP when Leapord comes out, but is there any chance new MBP hardware or a redesign will be released before then (such as multi-touch)?

Also, will most of the kinks in the Santa Rosa MBPs be removed before August?

PS-Right now I am borrowing my moms Blackbook when I need to do work, but it is her lappy and she travels a lot for business so this will probably end up being a big problem in the future.
 
Yup, the recent got a nice upgrade. Specs are nice, have the LED screen in the 15'', while the 17'' doesn't.


I'd feel safe tell someone to buy the MacBook Pros now.
 
My MacBook Pro arrives tomorrow and honestly I am so damn worried about all that can be wrong with it I'm all stressed out about it. Screen issues, heat issues, kernel panics, you name it. Especially since I plan to make this my only computer for the next 2-3 years.

I have my fingers crossed and am just hoping for the best.

Trust me, there are plenty of good ones out there. It's just that discussion forums are usually a focal point for complaints.
 
I felt the time was right when it turned July. So I ordered mine just a couple of days ago. I've noticed a significant drop off in forum threads started and kept going my people with MBP issues. So, as of about 5 days ago, I ordered a Glossy MBP (2.4, 160GB 7200RPM).

If it isn't safe by now, its probably not going to be much different later because from what I understand, they should tackle Quality Control issues early (I.E. by one month) and the issues they decide not to address they will never address until a new model comes out (whether due to lazyness or complexity in manufacturing).

Heh, you could wait till I get mine I suppose and see how I do. I'm actually getting 2.
 
I finally broke down and got a 15 inch 2.4 ghz MBP at an apple store yesterday. I got the matte screen and have none of the problems I'd read about here. I'm happy as can be.
 
With all the returns being made for yellow tinting, flickering, etc. I'm sure they have to know about this. There should've been a Apple exec flying out to Shanghai within the first 2 weeks to get to the bottom of this. That and I think some of the engineers actually read these boards. They should already be on top of this, one would think. Although, I have not read anywhere on these boards that any Apple employee has actually acknowledged there being a problem. That really surprises me.

Say that there will be a new redesign with multi-touch when leopard is released. That will be a first gen release of both the case and OS (kinda). I can't imagine the first multi-touch macbook to be completely flawless. With the redesign im sure apple will have the same subcontractors so your screen will still come from LG or Samsung. There no guarantee that a redesign will fix the heating issues either. Of course none of this will be found out till a couple of months after the macbooks have been shipped so if you plan on waiting, its going to be at least October/November before you actually buy one.

:)Haha, good point. It's hard to get a really good 15 foot screen these days.

don't worry about it, if there is a problem, you have a 1 year warranty without applecare.

you should be fine. Now is the time to buy.

I'd think that a laptop cooler would be in order for one of these... :p\

I too am hoping that the problems with the current MBP's are just about wrapped up! But then again, I'm probably going to be ready to buy in the December/January time-frame. My next laptop will be paid for in CASH! :D
