If they don't announce a new Mini then perhaps it would be ok to buy the current 4 lol.

(While the iPad Pro seems like the better unit the Mini fits better on the thigh for General Aviation flying)

I would wait - if Apple does not update the Mini 4, then you can get yourself one later. If they do, maybe you can buy the updated model or pickup the erstwhile 4 on a discount. I wouldn't bank on the 14 day return window - there is a (small) risk of the device becoming unreturnable...

Yeah probably wait until the keynote announcement just in case, but rumors are the mini will not be updated this year at all.

I just picked up a mini 4, couldn't resist the $299 Walmart deal even though this pricing comes around frequently. I just needed something at this size and there is really nothing else out there. I doubt anything gets announced this fall, but IMO I wouldn't count a mini 5 out yet, but maybe next year.

Your safe.
There is a rumor on the loop; the IPad mini and the Ipad 9.7 inch are being discontinued and they won’t be replaced.

I’m still using the ipad mini 2 and am hoping, although not expecting an update when the new ipad pros are announced. I love the size of my ipad mini 2. It’s perfect for traveling, but is getting annoyingly slow. If new ipad minis aren’t announced, i won’t buy the mini 4 tho. It’s 3 years old already, and I am sure it will get annoyingly slow soon too. I want the power of an ipad pro anyway for more serious art, photo & video work. But if Apple did update the ipad mini with faster specs & pencil support, i’d nab one for travel. I’m just not gonna hold my breath.

I always say that nothing is confirmed until the moment Apple themselves announce it (or don’t) but I would say that there’s about a 99.5678% chance that there’s no new mini in September.

There won't be an updated Mini. The complete lack of leaks from the supply chain is telling. No leaked parts or assemblies, no leaked photos of prototypes, not even leaked physical dimensions from the third party case makers.

Also, the all-knowing Ming Chi Kuo has said nothing.

But even so, we are so close that I'd wait just in case. It feels unnecessarily risky buying a 3-year old model with a 4-year old processor, just 2.5 weeks before a potential new model is announced.

I just purchased a Mini 4 last week even though I hate the idea of buying old hardware. Reason being I do not have an iPad currently and no rumors of an updated Mini have been in the headlines.

I realized the idea of waiting around is ridiculous since I have no alternative for one so I had to pull the trigger. There are ebooks i'd like to read and I am sick of doing this on my traditional monitor.

There won't be a new iPad mini this year.

or there will be. i mean if you are going to state as FACT that there isn't a new iPad mini then you would have to be at Apple, at the Corporate level. so you would know if they were killing the product etc.

so let's see what happens come October for any of the iPads.

in the meantime to answer the OP, if the current mini has what you need then yeah buy it. if it doesn't then don't.

Ok ....... so wait for an October announcement?

lol

.

Given Apple canned the A9-based iPhones last week, the question you should ask is whether you want to risk not being able to buy an iPad mini later this year.
