Safe to buy an MBA?

Do you mean is it being updated soon or do you mean is there still some problems with it. I plan on getting one in a week or so. I hear there is going to be an update in sept or so but I think it's just in regards to pros and macbooks.

i really think the updates are going to be macbook and macbook pro specific. as far as the air goes i'm still going to take the plunge and get one this month unless i hear about something confirming a change before hand.

I'd be extremely surprised if anything happened with the MBA in September; the design is so new, so revolutionary, so stunning, that if touched at all it will probably only be tweaked. Upgrades seem more likely for the MB and MBP; however, I'd imagine planned changes will be of the incremental rather than outright transformation. Good luck with it.

I would never expect Apple to change the design, port spec or anything else on the MBA for another year or so. But if there is going to be a new chipset released for it with more efficient processors coming, that may be a good thing to wait for.
