Just buy the top of the line and u will be good if u wait u will hate yourself whn u buy it and bang the next week a new one comes out

Hi all,
Here is my predicament.

Every 6 to 9 months a better one comes along with more speed, bigger screen, better video card, faster memory and larger HDD (or some combination). The next iMac will be better then the current one, but you are going to have to wait for it.

New designs sometimes include new design issues. So you might want to wait a few months before you buy so that the wrinkles can be worked out. Stuff like failing video, bad displays, overheating, bad motherboards can show up. Apple has had this in their recent past.

By the time you get done waiting for that stuff to be field proven reliable you will be right back where you are now in between product refreshes :)

If you NEED it, then get it now. IF you WANT it, then wait for the next refresh, and the next one and the next one. Or just budget for a new iMac every 9 months and you should be able to stay more or less current with the latest and greatest. It's the nature of Apples business model and marketing.

If you have the money, just get the high-end one and really it will last you a long time. If you keep waiting and thinking another will come along, then you'll never get one. I have a white Core Duo from '06 (which got updated 1-2 weeks later) and I still love it and it's still the fastest computer I've ever had with barely if any slowdown. Now they're better than ever. I don't think they will be updated for at least a few months. They're great machines, just get it and you will be happy.

There are rumors of new products coming out in the third quarter by Apple, as stated by steve jobs. There might be physical updates of the iMac, hopefully

At this moment seems like Apple's going mad and so is the rumor mill!(lol)

Nothings safe anymore....:D

P.S.: SJ must be laughing his lungs out reading all these threads around... seems like we're running after wisps of clouds like sheeps.... "oh its the MacBooks.... no its the iPods... OMG its both?.... No its the tablet Mac..." ROFL

Pun intended!

The iMac always has a very long product cycle. The first was in August, then in April this year, then my guess is the next will be in January or February.

What Apple did was use some Montevina like technology in the iMac, therefore if they did update them to Montevina there would be no change at all in CPU clock speed, RAM, etc. Or they might just leave the current technology in there until January. No point in updating in September only to change again in January (although they have been known to turn over products in 3 months with the Macbook, although the Macbook is there best selling product by far).

Basically what I'm saying is, buy it now, stop worrying about future releases.

I agree 100% with these two posts. The iMac was just released in late April so it's only 3 months old. I just bought the 3.06 model two weeks ago and love it.

I don't see any substantial upgrades to the iMac until early '09, at least nothing that will make my machine look like a snail. I say if you want the iMac, get it now and enjoy such a great machine.

Technology will always be updating and if you continue to just stand and wait for the next best thing, you'll miss out on the experience of ever owning and enjoying one now.

Yeah I'm sure SJ spends his days looking at message boards and rumor blogs
