iPod Safe to buy Shuffle now ?

Hi,

Now that the 'lets talk iPhone' thingy happened, nothing was said about the iPod Shuffle (haven't seen it yet, but no new news here). I initially waited to buy a Shuffle, but is it safe to buy it now or is there any other Apple Event coming soon?
There's no hurry for buying it, but if there's no chance it'll change, why wait ?

I think it's safe. I just went ahead and bought one yesterday.
 
They can't update it because it's already perfect. :D

I'm glad it was on that Keynote slide with the iPod nano and the iPod touch.

The only update they could possibly do is a capacity increase to 4 GiB for those who prefer to use Apple Lossless.

I'm curious about battery life for this scenario. On one hand it means a lot more data to read from the flash memory but on the other hand it takes a lot less processing to decode Apple Lossless compared to AAC.

Time to test something with my 2nd generation* iPod shuffle! :cool:

The one with the offset click wheel BUT with the cool little dock.
 
I wouldn't buy it now. Rumors of a teardrop shaped design. I think MR paid for a mockup. ;)
 
I just used the new Shuffle while running. I previously have been using the previous gen buttonless shuffle.

My micro-review: very nice to have those buttons! Oh man, the controls on a wire idea was only mediocre in practice and was terrible in a sweaty running environment. Those controls kept breaking down on me like clockwork. WIth the new buttons, I can adjust volume and ****. It's like, the basic functionality is there. Voiceover still works great for knowing what you're listening to. It's actually a good tradeoff for not having the screen. As a bonus, the voiceover button now requires only a push to hear the voice (vs the old shuffle requiring a long hold of the remote button) and one medium length hold to select playlists (Vs a ridiculously long hold on the remote before).

Downside: since the buttons are crammed on the entire face on the shuffle, it's hard to squeeze open the clip without pushing any buttons. With the previous buttonless shuffle, I could easily relocate it without thinking twice about it. Now, I have to use more care. I will need to develop a technique that works without accidental presses that lose my track position (I often listen to 1hr or 2hr long mixes, so accidental track switch sucks big time).

Let's see how long this one lasts before I kill it with sweat.
 
Just press and hold the Play/Pause button for a couple of seconds. It activates the lock. Same procedure for removing the lock.

Hi - I've got the same 2nd generation shuffle, and it's great! How are you finding the current model in terms of audio quality. I think that my 2G shuffle sounds better than my iPhone 3GS but I'm not sure if it's just my imagination.
 
The shuffle isn't going to change, perhaps 4GB capacity will come back but who knows. Personally the 2GB works fine with 128kbps conversion turned on I never go through the entire thing on a 8hr shift at work, in fact I probably hit around 30% of the amount of music on it.

If anything the shuffle will be canned in favor of the nano, however I think there is just enough difference between the devices to warrant keeping it on the market. The shuffle has physical buttons making it a great device for working out.
 
The shuffle really is not going to change much...you'll be fiiiine, even on the outside chance that they do update it!
