Still on iOS12 with my 8+. Is it safe to upgrade to 14 now? It's getting to the point now where my banking app no longer works with iOS 12 so I think it might be time to upgrade as it's starting to limit the usability of my phone. But I've been avoiding it since everyone seemed to be having all these complaints.

It's not safe to stay on 12 at this point.

You'll possibly pick up a few bugs (I went from 12.4.1 to iOS 14 when it dropped) and that's what I experienced. I've had a few minor bugs since the first version of 14 that haven't been addressed but the added features make up for it. Everybody is different when it comes to bugs and some don't mind while others get irritated so update if you're looking for a change but remember you can go back once it's done.

You can't base the stability off of what you see on forums. People go on forums when they have problems, which are a minority of people. All of the people that are not having problems are not going to post on forums saying that everything is hunky-dory. Just upgrade. You're putting yourself at risk staying on such on old iOS version with a bunch of security vulnerabilities.

This should I upgrade trend needs to stop. 🤦‍♂️

If your phone supports the latest updates, always update. 🤷‍♂️
That myth of Apple slowing down older devices is still being spread around. Plus people seem to have a fear of updates because it might break something in such a catastrophic way that it will make their device literally unusable which is also mostly nonsense.

Agree 100% had my xs max for 2 years installed every update that came out, still running as good as day one. 🤷‍♂️

Had my 3rd gen iPad Pro for almost 3 years now, also installed every update available, still running like day one. 🤷‍♂️

This apple intentionally slows down your devices needs to die.

which other company offers this kind of support. 👇 if apple really wanted to slow down your devices so they can make you upgrade sooner, they wouldn't be offering 5-6 years of software support.

iOS 13 was a disaster at first, but you should’ve updated later when iOS 13 became more stable. iOS 13.6 and 13.7 were pretty solid versions. And now, at this point of iOS 14, it is safe to update as well, especially with all the latest security patches from 14.4.1 and 14.4.2

Running iOS 14 on my 8+ and not observing any issues.
