Hi all,

I'm being rather impatient before next week but I got so close to upgrading my iPhone OS to 3.0 using my paid developer access but am worried that the 'restore to 3.0' would wipe all my texts etc?

Is that the case or will everything be fine? I don't want to lose any data but AFAIK this will be the same firmware that gets released to the public next week?

Thanks,
John

If you restore to 3.0 you should be able to restore your texts etc from a backup. I personally just option-clicked Check for Update in iTunes and updated to the 3.0 GM from the last 3.0 beta. So far no issues :)

Cool, that's promising. I didn't put the OS 3.0 beta on my iPhone because it was my only device and needed a fully functioning phone. So when I downloaded the OS 3.0 software last night (having also downloaded the new 3.0 final SDK) it wasn't immediately clear how to upgrade the iPhone to 3.0.

When I go to iTunes and click Check For Updates it says that 2.2.1 is the latest version (despite downloading the OS 3.0 for iPhone 3G file from the developer downloads page) but I wasn't aware that you could control click it. Damn, not at my Mac right now..!

The only option to install I found was from the organiser, where I could select OS 3.0, but I was scared by the 'restore to OS 3.0' terminology!

Perhaps I will try again tonight and take the plunge! I'm getting impatient!

Just tried option click upgrade to 3.0 GM. Backing up takes a very long time. Did you have this problem?

I think the entire upgrade process for me took less than 20 minutes. But I had just let my phone do a complete sync/backup before I started...

It was about 15 minutes and I was able to re-sync my existing data / apps.

Is there any downside to upgrading or is it just getting next Wednesdays OS a little early?

Well I upgraded last night by option clicking the check for updates button in iTunes and choosing the appropriate file. Absolutely no problems, just like a normal upgrade. Don't wait until next week!
