"Safeness" of Jailbreaking my 3G iPhone?

Quick question on jailbreaking my 3G iPhone. I currently have the 3G iPhone on at&t service and I want to keep it that way. I also have an iPod Touch that I won at a conference and decided to jailbreak. After several mess-ups, I was finally successful at jailbreaking the iPod Touch. I tried it because:

1. I had won the Touch and figured if I really screwed it up I could live with that and:
2. I read that the worst thing I could do was screw it up to the point of needing to factory restore it, but that I couldn't "brick" the iPod Touch.

My question now is: Can I "brick" the iPhone if I screw up the jailbreaking process? I don't plan on touching the baseband. I ended up needing to fully restore the Touch 5 or 6 times before I got it right and would hate to get into the position of messing up the iPhone and not being able to restore it to factory.

How "idiot proof" is the process? (Make something "idiot proof" and the world will make a better idiot!)

It's the exact same process.

Also, at this point, you can't alter the 3G baseband anyway, so it's good that you don't want to.

There are quite a number of these same exact threads here. Next time, have a look around first, eh?

I can tell you from experience that you are not in danger of completely bricking your iPhone 3G. I just recently dove into the jailbreaking world myself, and I did screw it up once, but it wasnt anything a restore couldnt fix.

The lesson I learned was that unless you are proficient in messing around with root directories and what not, use Cydia's "remove package" feature to uninstall programs instead of using something like Fugu to manually delete programs (again - unless you know what you are doing).

I used Quickpwn as the software, and I followed the tutorials on Hackthatphone.com. I'm not sure who runs that site, but he does an excellent job guiding you through the basic processes. Since you've already worked with an iPod Touch, you probably have a bit more experience to begin with anyway.

Two months ago, I didn't have the first clue about jailbreaking, or even, where to start.

By Googling, I discovered hackthatphone.com, and that is where I started my education.

In that short time, I have come a long way. I am now able to troubleshoot problems, give advice, and modify my phone through SSH (before I jailbroke, I had no clue what SSH was).
