Hi all! I'm new to the forum and I'm looking into buying my first mac (entry macbook pro)for college starting in August. It seems to me that there have been many problems with the 3rd gen macbook pros and all of the updates. I realize that only people with problems often post and the people that are fine dont, but this still scares me because there are a lot of posts about the yellow screen/sleeping problems and a few others. the nearest apple store is about an hour from my home but about 3 hours from my college so taking it in to be fixed would become a pain because i would have to ship it each time. I really like the macbook pros and i want one but how safe is it to buy one right now? are the problems being fixed so if i bought one i could be assured it wont have problems? getting it repaired wont be easy so i want to be assured that the chances of getting a defective one are very very very very very slim. so what do u all think? is it safe to buy one right now?

get one, they are fine

if you can, drive to the apple store, buy it, go sit somewhere power it up, make sure it works good, if not bring it right back...usually the update issue is fixed by resetting the PRAM so thats not an issue..its just pretty much been the yellow tint issue which seems to be going away, call first though cause a lot of the stores have been out of them lately

but like i reminded the last person buying one for college, a lot of web apps that colleges use, dont like anything but IE so be prepared to use that

heck my brother found one last year that his prof was using that didnt like IE7 and he had to use IE6

You have to note that there are 100,000 people registered on the forum, so it is going to appear that there are a multitude of problems with every Apple computer. Just go out and buy the MacBook Pro and be happy, there is a very low chance that your MacBook Pro will be defective.

They're fine. Don't let the excessive complaints on these forums disturb you. Buy it and enjoy it and your new iPod.

I purchased a 15" SR MBP a few weeks ago and it has been perfect, not a single problem.

Scroll down in this forum a few pages and you will find several threads full of posts from people who, like me, have not had even a single problem with their new MBPs.

Don't know if this will reassure you, but my 15-inch MBP arrived this past Wednesday and it is perfect.

thanks everyone for their quick reply! this forum is awesome, so much info on stuff! i think i'll order my macbook pro tomorrow or i might take a drive to Cincinnati and visit their apple store. i live in Louisville, Ky and there are rumors of an apple store opening but i haven't heard anything since like march....oh well, hopefully one will open sooner than later. oh and thanks for the heads up on IE!

Wirelessly posted (LGE-VX9900/1.0 UP.Browser/6.2.3.2 (GUI) MMP/2.0)

i own a macbook pro santa rosa and its fine. I havent heard of any sleeping problems with them, so i would say it is safe to buy now. Do it, its a great machine.

Thanks everyone! I just found out that Apple is opening a store in Louisville NEXT MONTH!!!!!!! HOW AWESOME IS THAT?? ok, im a bit excited. too bad im leaving for school and won't be within 3 hours of one from there. oh well, now if i order one and something does happen to be wrong with it i can take it to the new store -assuming it opens early august (which i read it was supposed to) and shipping doest take like 2 months- woohoo :D
