I have Mojave now on an external disk and Catalina on the main SSD.
How can I set up the same user for both maOSes?
I do not want to copy the user directory to save space.

why do people do this? (really, am asking). guess i don't get why some people complicate their lives so much (but certainly not arguing their right to do so). & curious to see the answers: can one use an alias, or a symlink??

Don't - you will regret it.

The advanced option in System Preferences - Users&Groups allows you to change home directories. But you will need to keep ~/Library separate.

Better to keep separate home folders and use Finder to navigate to the other home Folder.

Does no good when I tried it you had to delete the old home directory in the /Users folder or it would keep using it. It was years ago so they may have fixed that bug by now.

I need very rarely, but then urgently, some programs which I have only in 32 bit versions: Word, Acrobat Pro. If I need word twice a year for 5 minutes only (to fill some reimbursement forms which does not work in openoffice), I do not want to buy it or rent it. So I will fire up Mojave to do this. I now only forsee problems with permissions to save to the other home directory.
