Thread title says all.

The 840EVO seems to be a pretty good deal and gets predominantly rave reviews. I wondered if it will work out-of-the-box in my '09 MacPro? How about TPM?

Thanks.

Out of the box certainly, but don't forget a dock to easily install in the HDD bay of you cMP. Best boost for your cMP will be a SATA-III PCIe card and one or two 840 EVO's in raid-0.

GL & Cheers

I'm using it,
I bought a PCI data card so I can get full speed, else it will run at the older slower sata speed. Don't know if there is any difference in real world usage though.

2 840 Evos in my 3,1 hooked up to Solo X2, 250/750Gb for OSX/bootcamp. One stuck on top of the other using the Solo's second SATA port with a splitter from the optical power extension leaving all four sleds for spinners.

Very happy chappy here with them.

It's an adequate SSD. Not as fast as the Accelsior PCIe SSD but good enough.

I'm using it to speed up my virtual machines in a MP 4.1 2.93 Ghz.

At SATA 2 speed it's adequate in a sled but in SATA 3 only the 840 pro edges it slightly. Real life use I can't tell the difference between the evo and pro unlike the m500

Class leading consumer SSD, regular firmware updates and the least troublesome SSD I've had running even with older chipsets.

Using an 840 EVO SSD with my Velocity Solo x1 as the SSD aspect of a Fusion Drive. Performance is light years better than a mechanical hard drive. Trim Enabler command works for TRIM as well.

I noticed a performance drop going from the Velocity Sata III to the internal Sata 2 sled when I tried it. It was noticeable in regular use, not much but enough. I would suggest running it on a Sata III.

I've got a 250GB 840 EVO attached to a Velocity Solo X2, and its very fast. I also have a regular 840 250GB in an Icy Dock adapter in drive bay 1; while it isn't as fast as the 840 EVO (limited mainly by SATA II) I can't tell much of a difference with most things.

Either way, they're both MUCH faster than any mechanical drive.

You're writing pretty fast. I'm getting similar read speeds at SATAII with my 250GB EVO, but only around 200GB/s when writing.
