samsung 850 pro on my sata2 2009 mbp

i just finished installing a 512gb samsung 850 pro in my 2009 mbp. its maxing out at 278.4 read and 212.1 write im assuming its this slow because im running sata2, but my question is, is this normal? cuz i thought it would max out the sata2 and both should max out more close to 300mbps. ill appreciate the feedback. my specs are
2.53 GHz intel core 2 duo
ram-4 GB 1067 MHz DDR3
NVIDIA GeForce 9400M 256 MB

Uh? 278 read IS pretty much maxxing out 300 read. Write is slower due to the confirmation exchanges that what was intended to be written actually was written. Your specs are not relevant, SATA 2 is the bottleneck.

The speeds you are seeing are normal. Yes, they are low due to SATA2. No SSD can achieve the theoretical limits of the SATA speeds. Despite only getting 278.4 and 212.1, you will see very noticeable improvements due to I/O performance and seek times.

Real-world performance will always be a bit less than the 300 MB/s theoretical figure. So, those speeds are pretty much the best you'll get on a SATA 2 drive, but are still much better than a 7200 RPM mechanical drive.
