Good morning
I recently received my Samsung 860 Evo 500gb which I will use for my windows 10 install. Well I inserted the drive into one of the empty sata bays then rebooted my Mac Pro 5,1 “Big Sur” and for some reason it will not show up on disk utility, not even on terminal using “diskutil list” command. Does it require a driver? I should mention I’m using open core.

Install SSD-> reboot?

or

Shutdown -> install SSD -> cold boot?

Try a different bay…or even a USB housing/adapter (just to check it).

Also, if the bay(s) have been empty for a long time you could have just enough crud on one of the connectors to keep it from working.

I have two 860 evo’ s which work fine.
Maybe it’s a Big Sur issue.
This is why I only run supported systems.
