Hi there

I just bought Samsung 870 EVO 2TB. But it's not recognised by my MacPro 4.1 -> 5.1. Please find the BootROM

Hardware Overview:
Model Name: Mac Pro
Model Identifier: MacPro5,1
Processor Name: 6-Core Intel Xeon
Processor Speed: 3.46 GHz
Number of Processors: 2
Total Number of Cores: 12
L2 Cache (per Core): 256 KB
L3 Cache (per Processor): 12 MB
Hyper-Threading Technology: Enabled
Memory: 96 GB
Boot ROM Version: 9144.0.6.8.0
SMC Version (system): 1.39f5
SMC Version (processor tray): 1.39f5
Hardware UUID: 6119FE74-57B7-54C5-94EE-83340033E

I have another OWC 500G SSD, it's working very well

Reboot to recovery model. Sometimes DiskUtility will showing it but sometime its disappear.

Don't what's going on. Might a faulty ssd

Your bootrom is wierd.
Latest bootrom for cMP is 144.0.0.0.0

Have you initialised the ssd after installation.
Is it plugged into standard sata port.

Your not alone

BootROM is being set by Opencore.

How is the 870 installed? PCIe card or in one of the drive bays?

I have a similar system and same NMVe blade. has worked perfectly since first installed. My PCIe card listed in signature is dual, so I have two blades both EVO 970.

Oh... and I am running OpenCore @MarkC426, so I think it is hard to jump to conclusions without knowing more from OP (whether using SATA or PCIe etc).

EDIT: Just realized OP is referring to a SSD and not NMVe. Disregard my comment then.

Thanks, I'm directly to drive bays. I notice that after warm boot. it will disappear. If I start from cool boot, it's there

Is it a 870 qvo?

I experienced the warm boot issue with a qvo recently on a customer machine. It ended by using the qvo as a data drive cause it wasnt returnable.

Well maybe it is not playing well with SATA II which is all you get from the drive bays. A PCIe card to hold the SSD would give you SATA III. Perhaps try it on the Highpoint card as a test?

I have the same issue with a 2019 27” iMac I’ve looked everywhere but there seems to not be any firmware for Mac for the drive…

Hi there,

Very common issue with 870 Evo's warm boot they don't mount but do on cold boots.

Mine works "sometimes" on warm boot after I updated the firmware, see here for the update and the instructions to update
