Samsung 950 Pro + Lycom DT-120 - MP 5,1

I decided to give my Mac Pro a little boost by getting the new Samsung 950 Pro M.2 blade.
It arrived yesterday along with the Lycom DT-120 adapter and I don't get it to work.

I put everything in place but Os X doesn't recognise the 950 Pro.
In system report under PCI the Lycom Adapter shows up, but not the storage.

In Disk Utility the new blade won't show up either.

I'm running a Mac Pro 2009 updated from 4,1 to 5,1 – 6 core 3,46 ghz - 24 gb ram - OsX El Capitan - GTX 970 (unflashed).

The Lycom adapter wouldn't show up in system profiler with the GTX 970 installed, so i put my old radeon 5870 back. The adapter then shows up in system profiler but not the blade.

I've tried to boot into windows with the adapter and 950 pro installed. Windows gets stuck before even booting.

I've tried installing the blade in another mac pro with Os X Yosemite, no luck either...

What am I doing wrong? It seems to me the samsung 950 pro doesn't work with the Lycom DT-120.
Has anyone had any luck with this set up?

The 950 pro is a NVMe Blade. NVMe is not compatible with the cMP. You must use the SM951 AHCI.

I don't have a cMP, I have a MP tower.
To install the blade I'm using the Lycom M.2 PCIe SSD to PCIe x4 adapter. Maybe the Adaptor or the blade are not working correctly...

I was thinking TzunamiOSX was referring to "cylindrical" Mac Pro or "current" Mac Pro, some call it Mac Pro tube.

The 950 pro is a NVMe Blade. NVMe is not compatible with the cMP. You must use the SM951 AHCI.

NVMe is supported in OsX since 10.10.3 why shouldn't it work?

NVME is supported only on the retina macbook (not pro)
the current implementation is that OSX only carries a driver for that specific flash chip used in that model.

You will have to use a AHCI drive, the SM951 is the best choice.

Driver is just a part of the system, it's necessary but not sufficient to make NVMe work in cMP.

Apple has its own partial implementation of AHCI, NVME and XHCI. That means not all devices will work. Many AHCI Enterprise class SSDs won't work (Mushkin and OCZ for example), all the third party NVME drives currently available don't work, and USB 3.1 cards will work as 3.0 devices in Yosemite but won't work at all in El Capitan.

Apple has further narrowed device support in these drivers with El Capitan.

To the OP - You could have saved yourself a lot of trouble if you did some investigating on this forum - before your purchase. There's a lot of pretty bright folks who post here and a lot of knowledge to be gained by doing a little investigative work.

BTW, My SM951 and Lycom combo is working GREAT!!!!!!
