Hole in active display tech looks pretty nice. Can't wait until they can cover the front camera with a transparent led tho :D

Love how Samsung have scuppered the Huawei Nova 4 to be the first hole in display phone...launching 7 days earlier

Am I the only one who had a hard time mentally processing the title of this thread? My brain went off roading a bit. It does not help Samsung gave that phone such an awkward name. Yeeks.

Nice looking display. I like the dot better than notches.

I'd still take a notch over this. It looks so stupid. Why not put the "dot" at the top center of the screen like the Essential Phone? I know, because it would look too much like the Essential Phone, but this just looks horrible. I'd hate to have a hole in web pages or videos. It would look odd / asymmetrical to "black out" the top of the screen to make the dot blend in unless you also make the "chin" a little larger as well. Defeating the purpose of this faux full screen phone. IMO.

My guess is Samsung's copy machine finally got fixed, ready with notches and removal of 3.5mm audio jack.
Even the Chinese put better effort in designs (tear drop, sliders, etc). Samsung? Oh let's just move the hole to the side and call it innovation.

Probably a fake. Someone rerendered Huawei Nova 4.

It's like the small v-neck notch but off-centered and floating. Not as good as a compromise as other designs:

notchless in-screen sensors (holy grail) > notchless dual-screen (ZTE Nubia X) > small v-neck (OnePlus 6T) > tear drop (Essential) > slide-out selfie camera > less wide notch to display more info (Pixel 3XL) > wide notch that has no room to even display battery staus (iPhone Xs)

Looks damn good to me, and I assume to most as well. That really is the perfect placement IMO. The majority of the time, the important content is at or near the middle when viewing media and gaming. So this really will not be in the way vs the Essential Phone's small notch.

Notch has left the thread.
I'm sure if it was Apple's screen hole it would be considered revolutionary and useful, way better having a tiny hole than a the top of the screen cut off.

Guess we'll find out soon but if true they better be prepared for the mocking.

Said it in the S10 thread and will say it here...smaller holes/notches are always better but that position is just stupid. Why not push it up to the edge of the bezel and not waste pixels surrounding it?

Smart move. A design that's unique to Samsung & less intrusive than a notch. Touch ID will be the primary biometric authentication, but that won't bother many.

No heaphone jack. This is so fun to see, they are pathetic. Basically everyone who mocked Apple for removing headphone jack are now doing it themselves.

This is so fun, the only thing you can do is laugh. GG, “competition”.

yep....the more things change the more they remain the same huh.....
Remember how Apple mocked the large displays? Remember what they said about a smaller iPad?
Or how much Apple users said wireless charging was useless.

Basically everything Apple mocked about the competition they themselves went on to do....

Isn't it funny how everyone copies everyone else.....

As usual on this forum, people keep comparing apples to oranges.

Changing display size was due to demand from users. Apple never openly mocked others for bigger displays, they thought around 4 inches is optimal size, but customers begged to differ.

Samsung and many others openly ridiculed the Apple for removing the headphone jack. And now, they removed it. But not due to user demand, quite contrary, many people bought the S9/Note9 precisely because it has headphone jack.

Mocking others for something which are you gonna do later yourself is just making you look pathetic.

Hmmm...as usually on this forum...some have selective memories....
Didn't Steve actually call any phones with displays larger than 3.5 inches hummers? So after mocking other companies with larger display phones...they went on to copy and do the same thing. He even went on to say no one would buy them.....
Sitting next to Tim Cook......see below

A valid criticism, I bet Jobs is quite embarrassed right now...

...oh wait, he is not. Probably because he is dead.

And while he was alive, he stood by his words, no iPhone during his era was bigger than 3.5 inches.

Apple to oranges again...come on, this is boring.

ahhh.....so lets compare Apples to Apples then....lets leave oranges out of it :)

Then there was the Jobs designed iPhone 5...with a 4 inch display........

This is boring.......people forget how companies all copy from each other.....
So complain all you want about the headphone jack.......Apple copies too
They all do..... Companies don't mind suffering through a little hypocrisy for the bottom line.

All copy from each others. Difference is that some are acting mature, while some are acting like 5 year olds.

The difference is when Apple copied, it added value to the consumer. When others copied removing the headphone jack, they only added profit margins for themselves while consumers missed out on a well liked feature. Same with the recent price hikes.

I don't mind when other companies copy from Apple and add features I like, but I really don't like it when companies copy the ****** things Apple does for more profit.

What value or feature was added when Apple removed the headphone jack? Didn't they remove it to sell more of their own Beats brand product line? So when others copied it...why are they wrong?

People seem to want to criticize companies for removing the headphone jack.....while simultaneously giving Apple a pass for doing it first.

Not giving a pass on Apple for doing that, I even said so in the comment you quoted. It was a ****** move by Apple and it's a ****** move by those coping it.
