How is the Nexus 4 even on that list

They're saying they sold about 400,000 worldwide. (not official though, just estimates)

I knew Samsung phones have been selling well but I didn't think they'd be completely dominating the UK market like that. I've been seeing loads of Samsung S3's in Ireland but not many Note 2's or the other phones.

Do yourself a favor and don't do what others seem to never understand. You can't compare cars and phones.

However, it is a universal situation where low-priced garbage outsells more expensive high quality gear.

edit:
Samsung have been in the middle of a MASSIVE marketing campaign over in europe recently, particularly in London. When i was there during the olympics there were samsung promo stands all throughout the airport, train terminal for the eurostar, etc.

So all the other phones on that list except the iPhones are garbage?

Edit to your edit: how does that change anything? Apple can do the same thing, there's nothing stopping them.

2013 award for best Apple fan ever!

How you can call Samsung S3, S3 Note etc garbage is beyond me and the rest of the UK and US judging by these results!

Also, Samsung was an official sponsor of the 2012 London Olympic Games. Where was Apple during this?

Apple were giving out pins of course!

https://www.macrumors.com/2012/07/2...s-to-distribute-iphone-and-ipad-olympic-pins/

High quality, market leading, innovative pins.

Samsung, being the garbage they are, simply settled for becoming a major sponsor of the event.

Pins > sponsorship any day...

Now is the time for an absurd car sales comparison. Heck, let's even compare McDonald's too! :D

That dosent even make sense!

Samsung sponsored the 2012 Olympics and gave out a lot of free merchandise during the even.

throAU commented about Samsung during the Olympics - There was nothing stopping apple opening their chequebook and sponsoring the 2012 Olympics.

Guess it depends on your perspective. A BMW M5 outsells the Bugatti Veyron by a wide margin, so we'll just consider the M5 low-priced garbage.

See that. Had to stick with the car vs cell phone theme. :D

For the record, I consider a cell phone that bends and scratches easily (or is shipped that way, as was my case), and has to rely on another OS to get essential apps for its consumers, to be a low-quality piece of garbage, that is simply over-priced (unsubsidized price, of course.)

I'm not saying they're garbage. I'm saying that sales figures are not necessarily an indication of device quality or suitability for a particular purpose, and history is littered with plenty of examples of the superior product being out-sold purely based on price.

Windows machines outsell the Mac
VHS outsold Betamax
DVD still outsells blu-ray
QWERTY keyboards are way more common than DVORAK

etc

For me, i don't care how well android sells. The locked down nature of the iDevices is, for me a FEATURE.

I don't want to have to worry about the users I have to support getting malware on their phone. I spend enough time protecting the PCs on the corporate network from that stuff.

Congratulations, this thread was about sales figures. It doesn't take much diligence not to overload an Android device and somehow install malware, "just sayin" lol. Why bring it up in a discussion on sales figures? Sure the iphone is better suited for my 50-year-old tech-illiterate mama, but I can live with that.

sales ranking does not directly correlate with quality; true, this is an obvious fact that does not necessitate verbalization. but to imply it justifies that one particular device is somehow of 'better quality' than another, is an illogical leap either way. These are simply sales figures.

By your line of reasoning--a. la "low-priced garbage outsells more expensive high quality gear", the Ace 2 owns both iphones. Following that logic, wouldn't much-outdated technology be considered higher quality gear?

If Apple was at the top of this list, we'd be hearing "see, quality will always sell well."

Don't y'all know the rules of certain Apple fans, yet? Apple always wins, even when they're losing.

Why? Because...

Yes i completely agree with this.

If Apple fans could admit that Apple, like everything, is not perfect there wouldnt be such a crazy/nutty fan vibe on threads like this.

I was at dinner with some of my work friends last night and it was amazing how many S3's were at the table when a year ago everyone was rocking iPhone 4's and 4S's.

When I asked why so many were swapping over from Apple, it simply came down to screen size and wanting something "fresh".

I think this year I might join them...
