Good read.
My Razer is the same way.
OS updates are good when they come along however the security updates are good and timely, Razer has their functionality updates independent of the OS updates, and I lay Prime Nova over the top.
While nice to have Android OS updates, they are not required to further enhance my device.
I have a secure up to date highly functional device that has far far fewer issues than my Pro Max.

The best thing about Android updates are the core OS apps can be updated independently of the major OS updates.
That means the functionality of Android 11 core apps can be updated through the Playstore on devices previous OS versions.

I dont really care about OS updates. My phone will get the next OS update at some point but having the independant App updates is good enough for me, and they come pretty regularly.

I don't care about OS upgrades either, but it shouldn't be confused with security updates. Imo security updates are always important and they should be timely.
It's worse considering Google gave the security patches 1 month in advance to these OEMs. And Google already made it easy to implement. But I guess that's not good enough.

And before somebody claims their flagship Galaxy S gets security patches on time, the fact is majority of Android phones out there are NOT flagships. Even Samsung A and M lines are only getting quarterly security patches.

Imagine if Microsoft decided that laptops under $1000 will only get security patches in a quarterly basis regardless of the severity of the patches. There will be an outrage. But why are we okay with this on our phones, a device that is actually at higher risk since it's always connected to the net and carry a ton of personal information?

They can even do the opposite. I think I've read some call recording apps stopped working after an android os update.

I use ACR and it still auto records flawlessly.

But this is the issue.

Exactly. My S5 is still getting updates on core apps via the play store even though it hasn’t had a system update in years.

Yep, Android 10.

Maybe a country based privacy issue?
I'm in New Zealand.
