ViewFiniity S9 is a 27" 5K monitor just like ASD for about HALF of ASDs MSRP. And it comes with a little remote and apps so you can use it like a little TV (too). Front facing camera is superior. "Stand options" are NOT extra but included. And, it has an extra input port so you can plug something else in like maybe a little PC for "old fashioned bootcamp" or a game console.

The fans will sling "plasticy" and "wobbly", etc because "only Apple can make a good anything (they make)" but the key part that one looks at in a monitor matches the full retina 5K resolution of the ASD. So if you want a 5K 27" monitor, consider it a legit competitor. And if you want 2 of them you can take the budget for ONE ASD with stand option and buy TWO S9s.

Even if one can't bear the thought of not having the logo on a piece of tech made by the logo, a price this good for like (key) specs may inspire Apple to sharpen their own pencil for their Black Friday pricing either directly or through third party partners.

Competition is always good for consumers, especially those who can "think different."

A computer monitor from Samsung should be a big NO for everyone.
I've looked SO MUCH before buying an Odyssey OLED G9, found so many people having QC issues with them.
I thought they produced them since quite a few months already, and it was the second generation, so I shouldn't have any problems.
Bought one myself, returned it because it was impossible to assemble because a socket was misplaced. Samsung's Customer Service told me I need to hire professionals myself to assemble it 🤣
Bought another one a few months later, I could assemble it, but the ports in the back were misplaced.

I'm not a singular story. I've looked so much. But I thought Samsung was a good company.
They definitely don't take quality and customer service seriously... Sorry.

With these discounts, one has to wonder what the break even price is. $100 per product? I think they'll still get loads of profit with these lower prices.

When does Apple eventually start with black friday gift cards?

Steer clear. Poor build quality across most product lines. And a poor track record on Customer Service in the likely event something goes wrong. I know this to be true.

I have a 65" Samsung in the living room and love it (going on 6 years, I think). Needing another one for an addition. That 65" for $1k has my attention. Anyone own one?

Same boat. Needed to replace my six year old 65” Samsung Quantum Dot UHD TV with a new one. Got the S90C 65” OLED from BestBuy last week for the same $999.99 price tag. Best decision I’ve made tech wise in a while. Picture quality is stunning. Just buy it and never look back. You won’t be disappointed.

There’s a reason why these are consistently
steeply discounted. Build quality is lackluster at best and the user experience doesn’t match, especially if you’re using it with Apple products. My daughter has the 32 inch M8 and it’s been a headache for the two years she’s owned it.

Look at the reviews across the Internet, including in Samsung’s own website. Specs on paper don’t mean anything if the product isn’t very good.

The reason is that Samsung doesn't target nearly 50% margin and it's "normal" for them to have steep sales across many of their tech products regularly. I picked up the highest-rated Samsung TV a few years ago for about 50% off the original price by timing it right to get end of model year maximum discount. No problems whatsoever... best TV I've ever owned. I've got a Samsung Microwave from 2010 that is still going strong. No issues at all.

Yes, reviews are mixed for this monitor as they are for most tech products. Initial ASD reviews that were objective piled up with thorough ridicule of the ASD camera but let's not hold bad reviews against ASD... only everyone else.

Those who have problems communicate them. Those with no problems are not so "loud." For example, I've never posted a positive review of the TV or that microwave- just enjoyed them.

Anyone wanting to buy the negatives often referenced by Apple fans in EVERY thread where someone else's brand is in the picture should consider checking warranty and/or extending it... just like the one Apple sells for Apple tech. Else, at about HALF the ASD price, one could "take a chance"- as I did with the TV, microwave and new fridge- and if it turns out to be a dud, at least you are not out ASD (double the) price but only this sale price.

And if it works fine for you, you have a 5K 27" monitor for your Mac with some other tangible benefits for HALF the cost of what Apple wants for a 5K monitor. And it more readily works with any non Apple tech too.

NGL a 65" OLED for under $1000 is wild.

Right now I'm looking for a 77" OLED. Have my eye on the LG C3. I don't need the latest and greatest. Price keeps slowly dropping, waiting to see more sales.

I bought one for the same price this weekend from Best Buy. So far I really like it but the menus and controls are clumsy. The picture seems very good once you dial it in. Way over saturated and the blur and motion features were making me sick looking at the TV. Turned those off. So far so good. I've watched football, basketball, news, TV shows and a movie. All looked really good.

My previous TV was a 2016 LG 55 B6 OLED. The Samsung is much brighter and doesn't have nearly as much of an issue with crushed black/dark gray scenes. a keeper I think for $999. But I still have the box in my garage for a few more days lol

Try to sugar coat it all you want. It objectively has the lowest average rating amongst all of the ’high resolution’ monitors on Samsung’s website and equally terrible when compared to popular monitors over on Best Buy and Amazon. If it was only due to dissatisfied customers that scream the loudest, you’d see similar results for all hardware. Fact is you don’t because it‘s not a good product and the steep discounts are for a reason.

The terrible reviews aren’t an anomaly on a single website…they’re ubiquitous across all online merchants. And this was for a product that initially was priced exactly the same as the Studio Display. Again, there’s a reason it’s so deeply discounted. The saying ’you get what you pay for’ exists for a reason.
