So I have been testing the two new Samsungs, Note 5 and Edge plus.

I always have my phones an max brightness as thats how i like it

Here is what i found

There is no question that the Samsung displays are incredibly vivid and super sharp

Noticeably better then my iPhone 6 plus display

There is a very big difference in the white color of the note 5, it has a yellow hue (warm), while both the edge plus and the iPhone 6 plus are more clear white (cool)

I tried taking pictures, but my phone camera doesn't show this very well

Bottom line is this

The edge plus display is absolutely freaking incredible
The note 5 is good, but comparing to the edge plus, the edge plus is much much better
The iPhone 6 plus display is just excellent

Again, this is purely my observation. This is not a feature comparison

P.S. I still really like the Note 5 for the s pen features over the edge plus edge features...but thats another topic

I've watched 2 videos that stated the Note 5 screen appeared to be slightly better.

I think indoors the note/edge is better but outside the iphone has a better brighter display.

OLED will crush LCD any day of the week. That is a fact not an opinion :)

Infinite contrast.

The only thing LCD does better is viewing angle.

QHD screens are amazing, but they do also use up a fair bit more power.

Statistics do not always produce real results

Why do the Note 5 and Edge Plus display produce different whites?

There are more than enough rather mediocre OLED screens though which look significantly weaker next to a decent LCD.

Like what? Only LG and Samsung even make them and they all look great. Sure sometimes they are not calibrated correctly, but if you do that they will always look better.

The s6 screen is one of a few key reasons I haven't replaced it with anything else this year. The best screen I've used in a smartphone to date.

Moto X range has always had them and they haven't been the strongest, the Nexus 6 has AMOLED and is only 'OK' despite being QHD too. Likewise Lumia 535, Galaxy Alpha, Blu Vivo, Lumia 1020, Blackberry Z10, Blackberry Z30, Lumia 820 and many more .....

whilst certainly Samsung's Super AMOLED is great, there are many instances of other OLED displays certainly not being better than a decent / good LCD ...

I honestly will argue that has 100% to do with the way it was calibrated at the factory. If comparing apples to apples, both calibrated correctly, LCD stands a 0% chance.

Granted that is not a real world scenario, so I understand the comments. You cannot do anything if the screen is not right on a phone.

Amazing, this isn't up for discussion. Absolute joke and an insult to anyone even putting any other display in the same sentence as the Note 5 or Galaxy S6/edge.

There is a reason a few reviews have said, "It is a perfect display"

Seriously why so much pent up anger ?

Samsung do have the best displays in my eyes. The screens are simply stunning but some do prefer the screen on their iphone and thats up to them. I love the display in my air 2 for example.

Yep I have no preference myself - as long as it's got a really good display I'm happy regardless of LCD or Amoled.

My personal preference things I look for are 'colour accuracy' due to sheer volume of pics I take, and also outdoor visibility for same reasons.

SuperLCD / Super Amoled / Pentile / Non Pentile / Diamond Matrix etc... All mean little to me preference wise.

So I have current and have had past both excellent displays which are Amoled (or SuperAmoled) and LCD - but likewise I have devices with disappointing displays especially in regards to colour accuracy and outdoor visibility.

Basically as long as it's a great display - I don't care particularly the tech behind it. No preference what so ever.

I think the iPhone 6 screen is better than my QHD Nexus 6 screen. As great as it is head on, you get some crazy rainbow effects and colour shifting at an angle.

Samsung's top of the range amoled screens beat the iPhone's display in every way. Resolution, contrast, accuracy.

They are stunning. I just can't see where Samsung can go from here though!

Flexible & folding displays .... plus there's always room to enhance things like outdoor visibility and power consumption through new advances - even if things like resolution and such remain the same.

Diamond matrix is reportedly a massive improvement over pentile for example.

So yeah there will always be things they will improve no matter how good we think a display is now :)

Try to keep this on subject rather than getting personal and assume I'm angry. I've used Displaymate as my source. You should know, I'm a man of science and fact. I am not the PC type that likes to hold hands and sing Kumbaya. The subjective point of view is pointless to discuss. Otherwise we'll be here discussing how standard Def TVs are better than HD and Ultra HD TVs because it's someone's personal opinion. Useless. The level of ignorance in these forums by some when so much factual measured information is available is disturbing.

They're quite obviously great displays--I'd love a nice power sipping, highly accurate SAMOLED display on my iPhone as well. But the LCD display it currently has is more than adequate for my needs. And what's the point of a terrific display if one doesn't prefer what he/she has to look at on it. ;)

Not sure why we need all these d... measuring contests other than to validate one's own choice of a device.

I wasn't picking a phone based on the display..i was just making an observation..the whites on the Note 5 are yellow, while on the Edge Plus and the 6 Plus they were much more realistic white

Your totally entitled to your opinion regardless to whether or not it is contrary to others viewpoint so pay no heed.

One thing did occur to me though ... By chance did you check what display mode the Note 5 was in. I ask because Samsung devices are normally defaulted to 'adaptive display', and there is also a mode called 'basic mode'. I have noticed on both my S6 Edges & Note 4 prior - that basic mode which used to be my preferred mode as it dials down the over saturation - has a tendency to add a yellow cast (it never used to - it was previously the mode to select for more realistic colour and whites).

So it's possible that the display mode was different between the Edge & Note 5 and that might explain the difference in white balance and punchiness / vibrancy.
