Hi

I plan to buy an additional SSD, and I noticed that many online stores in Poland have Samsung Enterprise SSD PM883.

Can I use it to boot macOS in Mac Pro 5,1?

Is it a better SSD than the Samsung 860 EVO or Crucial mx500 for Mac Pro 5,1?

Why wouldn't it work? As long as its SATA.

I would get the EVO personally, it will be faster and Samsung has a great track record with the consumer drives.

Thanks for the answer.

For example, the Samsung EVO 870 is problematic on Mac Pro 5,1, and I don't know if I will have similar issues with this one.

Samsung Enterprise SSD PM883 is in a similar price range but more common in online stores than the Samsung EVO 860. I wonder if it will work correctly on Mac Pro 5,1 and why it is so unpopular among Mac users.

I saw two posts on this forum.

Is the Samsung Enterprise SSD PM883 slower and less reliable than the Samsung EVO 860?

Ah gotcha, yeah then don't use the EVO. You might be able to find an older Samsung Pro line (great drives) they should work without issues. Not sure how big of an SSD you want.

You should also be able to do with an NVME (they seem cheaper than SATA SSDs nowdays which is hilarious) and a compatible PCIe NVME adapter. Much faster speeds
