Samsung Galaxy Bricked - Question

My new Samsung Galaxy on5 just got bricked and has a message that comes on that says "custom binary blocked by frp lock" and I can't get the phone to boot to the home screen. I know this is not a mac question but do any android users here know how to fix?

If you can't work out XDA, then I very much doubt you'll have much luck unbricking your device.

It's a website with a forum full of very knowledgeable people. Have a look or ask on there.

If this is a "new" phone return it because it sounds like someone returned the thing to the store (assuming you bought it new from the store hence "new") because they broke it trying to root and or install custom firmware.

Frp means the device has been previously used and was then factory reset....

As others have said XDA is the key however if you dont want to send it back then you will have to do the following

Ensure you have installed samsung kies so the usb driver is installed but close the software down before doing these
Download ODIN software
Download the stock image for your phone from SamMobile (select model and then correct region)
Extract the file (you may have 4 or 5 files or one large file)
Put phone in download mode by powerring off, then hold down volume key and power key plus home key at the same time and follow instructions plug in usb
Open Odin and select the correct file (look up guides as it varies from model however single file is normally put in pda /ap section)
Then flash the software

At this point do not unplug the cable or ya stuffed. Once flashed it should reboot ok.

Depending on the file you selected it may or may not wipe data on the phone

Sounds like the guy you paid to root your phone didn't do a good job of it.

You should probably ask him/her to fix it. If that's not possible, as others have said, XDA is your best bet. You will find detailed posts like the one from @thering1975. You will have to jump through a few hoops to sort it out yourself.

It also changes things if the dude who did the root also flashed a custom recovery..


This is why it's bad to have other people do stuff for you if you don't understand and can't do it yourself then just don't in general.

No intention to derail the thread but isn't custom recovery the first thing you set up before you venture into the territories unknown aka flashing roms? I've not had an Android for the past few years so my knowledge of rooting/flashing roms is a little rusty.

It's not required just to root but if you want ROM's you need one generally

Your phone is not bricked the guy that rooted your phone logged in then someone did a factory reset.

This is a protective measure that Android has if someone steals your phone.you are in for a huge mess trying to get it working again as I have gone through this with my phone that I let my wife use that someone logged into and I tried a factory reset and got the exact issue you have.

You need to do what the op said above and install all the files over again and then it's not over.

Once it boots it still won't let you get into TouchWiz.it will give you a licked screen saying to log in with the original email and password that caused the phone to lock up.

You need to get a USB dongle and load it with setup apk or something that will run to get you past the lock screen and be able to lunch the settings app and then do a true factory reset and disable the stupid security stuff that is on the is first.

Good luck! It took me 3 weeks of xda searching and almost through the phone away.

It's a brilliant anti theft protection but sucks when you are the one trying to get back into your phone.
