Are they really going to cancel this?

I am going to buy a new phone for my GF, and if there really is no note I will get her a s21 ultra. I just find it hard to believe they actually cancelled their most iconic phone line.

AFAIK the note series as we know it is done. Since the S21 provides full s pen support, it, is essentially the NOTE now.

I know most folks harp on the boxy design of the Note, but what really set it apart from the S line was the S-Pen. And now that the Samsung has provided S-Pen support... there's little reason to keep the Note line alive.

Supposedly, Samsung will bring the Note line back, but I think they will focus on integrating
(a dedicated slot) S-Pen with the S-line and bringing the S-Pen to the foldable line.

I have the s21 ultra, and the pen support is not the same if the stylus isn’t included.

I still haven’t found a good way to carry one with me.

Ummm.. I believe the best way is using a case. I don't own a S21 Ultra and I'm not sure on how many cases that has been produced by 3rd parties. But I would think most S21 Ultra users who has the S-Pen bought a case for it

I have the Spen case with my S21 Ultra but I only put it on when I travel for work. Honestly, I dont find it that much more uncomfortable than my regular Samsung silicone case. If I really needed Spen everyday, I wouldnt have a problem running it full time.

You can still get the Note 20. They’re still great if you require a built in stylus.
Samsung indicated they would not do a Note series this year, citing the shortage as the excuse. If the Fold 3 supports the S pen, we know the Note series is kinda done for.

It's looking more and more like Samsung is more interested in integrating S-Pen support into their products, rather than having dedicated devices with S-Pen support.

For example, the Galaxy Chromebook originally came with a built in S-Pen, but the Galaxy Chromebook 2 removes it and makes it a separate accessory. Considering the S21 Ultra has the S-Pen while also being the same size as the largest Notes available, it makes sense the Note would be dead. There's really nothing to differentiate it from the S21 Ultra other than a built in pen and maybe some design choices.

Like ian87w said, if the Z Fold 3 gains S-Pen support (which is looking likely), it's over for the Note forever.

That does make sense.. considering it becomes attached with a price a tag when it’s separate. Although, it doesn’t help the consumer.. but it’s a business move.

Imo Samsung probably sees that the number of people buying the Note series was more for the larger screen than using the S-pen. With the S series getting a Plus and Ultra versions, the differentiation between the S and Note line is getting blurred. Thus maybe instead of having two flagships cannibalizing each other, Samsung would rather have one main flagship (S series) and use the resources for the bleeding edge lineup (the Z series). And for those wanting an S-pen, at least people can just buy it as an accessory.

Well, we are only talking about .1 inch screen difference between the two. If others are like me then fully integrated S-pen is the most significant difference between the two products rather than the screen differential. Personally, I have no use for S-pen if it doesn't fully integrated with the phone.

Prior to Samsung making Plus versions of the S series, the Note series always had larger screen than the S series. And I bet Samsung has the data showing that the number of people using the S-pen is not that many, and thus people gravitated to the Note series was mainly for the larger screen. Hence the Plus and Ultra models of the S series.

Is there any definite word on the cancellation of the Note series? As far as I've read, the rumours abound about this just like every year. Isn't Samsung themselves supposed to have said that they might skip the Note this year because of chip shortages but that they're planning to have it return in 2022? Either way, my knickers stay untwisted until we get closer to the usual release date.

But I doubt it returns.

Right, so still "considering". I guess we'll see. If they do skip it this year I agree, that might be enough for the brand to fade away amongst Folds and whatnot. Would be a shame IMO, I've always been particularly fond of the Note.

Umm.. I believe it’s a done deal, we already have leaks of the Z Fold 3. If the Note is coming… leaks would of been out by now. And Samsung normally release the Note series before foldables.

But, yeah.. I like the design over the Note compared to S line, but the S line is more popular.

I am jazzed just to get the note 10 lite. Great screen, great camera, great battery life and most of all great price.

I just looked up pictures of the s pen case, and it makes the phone comically large.

I think it was a cop out by samsung saying no note 21 due to chip shortages. They will just not release one this year then never mention the note line again. That’s how i feel we will see things play out.

Agreed. But Samsung had to announce something to appease the Note fans. And chip shortage seems like a valid excuse when so many other manufacturers are dealing with it.

But we all know that's not the reason, given that they are releasing TWO foldables at the same time. Someone pointed out in the Fold 3 thread... that Samsung is moving toward adding S-Pen to other devices, while making it standalone accessory. And I'm wondering why bring the Note back when Samsung can charge more for making the S-Pen an add on accessory.

I have 21 Ultra, bought a case with the S-Pen holder on the side -- and will never use the case. It's too bulky and adds to size and weight.

Maybe if you are out and about - travelling, and need to tether S-Pen.

Ever since 10 yr old Note II I've thought phones should have a pen.

NO big deal, The note series always had great battery life. Even back in the day when I had the original Note device, it got better battery life than most every other phone. it's physically larger than other phones to compensate for the very tiny s pen slot.
