Does anyone know if I buy a new Galaxy device off Swappa, it will come with a 12 month warranty or will the warranty be shorter since someone may have purchased it much earlier on? I am looking for a T-Mobile model Note 8 or factory unlocked new Note 8. Also considering eBay as well?

Swappa devices are sold by owners who bought them as well. So whenever the device was bought originally is when the warranty started. Those devices are used or some are new. Mine Note 8 is still covered till October of this year but I got it 2 weeks ago second hand. Do not use Ebay. Ebay doesn't scan the IMEI so you can get sold a blacklisted phone.

The one year manufacturer warranty is in effect on the date it was Purchased by the original owner. Once you purchase the phone, the warranty has a remaining balance of XYZ months once its transferred to you. (Assuming the phone was never placed in someone else’s name).

Also, I don’t prefer Ebay for numerous reasons, Swappa is a much safer bet. Know your source who you’re purchasing from. (I.E-Seller feedback, Photo’s, communication, ect).

I echo the advice of staying away from eBay.

Any warranty left on the phone is from original purchase date. Some of the sellers on Swappa are selling phones that they bought second hand. Be sure to ask if any warranty is left before purchasing.

So if I want a 12 month warranty, especially also getting credit card extended warranty coverage benefits; I may have to settle with buying a product directly from Samsung, T-Mobile, or get lucky with Swappa?

If you want to take advantage of the extended credit card warranty, you need to buy brand new retail.

Yikes, that is a costly proposition since I intend to use my next Galaxy phone for like 2 years +.

Those would be the terms of the credit card extended warranty, I suggest you read yours to verify. They usually will want a retail receipt from purchase of the item in order to process the claim, and that purchase has to have been made with your card. Often, repair is out of pocket with statement credit or a check issued once you submit but you would be informed of that should you need to make a claim. This was my experience with the Discover one a couple years ago.

Some banks have a program called Bazing, if you pay your cell bill with your debit card, you get warranty and accidental coverage on your phone as long as your pay your phone bill autopay with your debit card.

Why would you be screwed? The warranty is attached to the serial # of the device with Samsungs just like Apples.

Because no 12 month warranty. It might be like a 5-8 month warranty.

For the much cheaper price, that is fine by me. By the time warranty is up, I'd get the Note 9. They way I see it, if the phone hasn't had an issue when you get it after being used for 4 months, it shouldn't have any issues for the rest of the warranty. But if it does, at least you have 6 months to get them fixed in.

Swappa also has some new in the box ones that are very new, less than a month old for a few more bucks than used.

True, but a few of the sellers I inquired with don’t say much about their device respective warranties. I want to use a Note 8/S9/S9+ for two years or so.

You can purchase a 3rd party warranty through swappa when you purchase a phone. Last I saw it was 1 year (covers accidents too) but they could have a 2 year option now. Check in to it.

https://swappa.com/listing/XSV825/view only 3.5 months old

But just ask people in the comments how old their devices are and if they can send the receipt with it. I got mine with the receipt that way.

Since I want to use the phone for a few years, I need something new. I am very particular with Samsung products because they have been pretty bad when I buy a refurb. I may just pay the $ and use the S9+ for 2+ years.

I’ve always been told Samsung want to see proof of purchase before any warranty work so it’s put me off buying second hand in case there’s any issues.
