I've used the new Apple Watch Series 4 for awhile now -- I also had the first and second generation Apple watches -- but I am currently intrigued by the Samsung Galaxy 46mm Watch -- especially in the ability to use really great-looking watch faces.

Everything I have right now is in the Apple Ecosystem...MacPro (2013), an older but still reliable 15-inch MacBook Pro, and the newest iPad/iPhone/Apple TV. I'm not too much of a power user with my Apple Watch as I only really use it for fitness (steps, workouts, etc.), to tell the time, monitoring heart rate, etc. I look up sports scores and read messages sometimes but I use my iPhone for all my mobile heavy lifting needs.

If I buy the Samsung Galaxy Watch, I probably would use my Apple Watch as my main fitness watch and the Samsung for more of an everyday wearable watch. I wore a Garmin Fenix5 a couple of years ago -- between wearing my 1st/2nd gen and 4th gen Apple Watches -- but their watch faces always looked washed out and a bit hard to read to me. I do love a larger watch face area as well as my eyesight seems to be getting worse with the older I get.

I really have no desire to switch mobile phones as I do like/love my Apple iPhone but, goodness, the ability to have really unique and fun watch faces to better show off my personal style seems so much better with Samsung's offering than what Apple does with (my opinion, of course) its very bland watch faces. I'm very big into Pop Culture and wanted to enjoy looking at my watch again and this has me thinking about the Samsung Galaxy Watch. If Apple would allow 3rd Party Watch Faces I might not even be asking this question to you all today.

Plus, at the end of the day, I ultimately prefer a round watch face to the rectangular one Apple currently employs if I had to choose between the two styles.

The Apple Watch has worked great for me over the last year or so but I was thinking of possibly changing this one aspect of my computing/electronics life. Also, I'd love to hear about other's experiences before I put down about $400 or so on a new purchase.

So...Has anyone had experience with the Samsung Galaxy Watch while still on iOS with the newest iPhone? Does the Galaxy Watch work well with iOS or is this grandiose idea I have to switch watches more of what I hope it will do than what that other watch actually does? Thanks!

I've used a Samsung watch with an iPhone. But this was about two years ago. As I remember, I had to keep the Samsung Gear app open in the background to stay synced (That most likely isn't the case now). The experience wasn't that great, but not that bad.

Take a look at this detailed review.......

I saw that video last night and it was very interesting. Thanks for posting the link.

I know this is an old post. I've been an Apple guy for well over a decade now, computers, phones, tablets - (original AW, currently using AW4 99% of the time) but I picked up a Galaxy Watch cheap a week ago just because I'm a watch nerd...plus I loved the large 46mm size AND of course the slew of watch faces! (And wow...there are thousands upon thousand of them, even many free watch faces are just works of art!)

It was tricky at first getting the watch to sync with the iPhone XSMax, BT just hung there and couldn't "discover" the watch, the Galaxy Watch IOS app failed a few times (just got a blank icon?) I reinstalled it. Then the popular Facer App had trouble "sending" watch faces to the Galaxy..the other one called "Mr Time" - LOT of great free watch faces for the Galaxy on the website....but on the iPhone app, it only deals with Apple Watch - which still sadly is just photos, live wallpaper.

Seems to be working for now, the Facer app takes a ton of Ram on my phone, all the watch previews use real time previews so scrolling looking for faces - literally for 30-45 mins - will drain the phone battery.

For the heck of it, I tried all of this with my friends Note9, of course it's much easier and flawless.

*Look, I love the AW, but the custom photo faces, the live wallpaper gets dull fast. And yes...we've said it for years - "LET US (OTHER DEVS) BE ABLE TO CREATE OUR OWN FACES!"...seriously Apple, c'mon!

The Galaxy may not be the fastest smartwatch...the AW4 still blows this watch away when it comes to speed. And I am missing features since I have iPhone...but personally the customization when it comes to the watch faces (or even 3rd watch bands and even bezels) make this physically look very nice.

If it's anything like pairing a Galaxy Watch to a non-Samsung Android phone, you lose SMS texting from the watch (you can still reply to notifications) among other things.
