Scary for sure.

Many initially wondered why Samsung would allow rivals to have access to a key selling point of its Galaxy smartphones, but the Korean manufacturer has since sent out a press release that clarifies that not all of Knox is coming to the standard Android release. Samsung will maintain exclusive aspects like EMM and Marketplace, the enterprise-focused app platform, but the company has partnered with Google to create a system that will allow users to have personal data and work data operating independently on one phone.

Let's hope that one of the "exclusive features" retained by Samsung will be the possibility to have Knox tripped/warranty voided by non-unlawful acts :D

Well on the T-Mobile Note 4, Knox hasn't stopped me from rooting and adding custom recovery. I didn't flash any custom roms, but others had. I don't care about tripping any flags.

I have read that people got warranty service on knox tripped phones on xda, but who knows if you can believe them and I'm afraid that mileage may vary.

I'm all for security, it's the warranty voiding part that sucks.

Agreed below -v-
I hope it's just software, (even iOS can be restored fully to stock with no traces for warranty purposes after jailbreaking)

Yep I ran into problems myself with a tripped Knox flag which happened when doing a recovery in KIES (worst software in the world) and then when my sim card slot played up - it was a real nightmare getting a warranty repair.

That's not good news, unless it remains just a software feature - if hardware flags follow with it - its a major stumbling block for android.

I have JUMP with T-moible. From what I been hearing, T-mobile doesn't give a damn, heard the same about Samsung too. Not to say that they never ever check, but the chances are probably slim that they will call someone out on a tripped flag.

I used to work for Samsung mobile US, never saw a warranty rejected because of Knox.

They will service your product even after 6 months out of warranty if your nice on the phone ;)

I miss Knox on my Moto G. My company has a lot of restrictions when setting up a corp account on a phone. Phone needs to have a strong password, needs to be encrypted and of course there is the fact they could control / wipe the phone remotely.

With Knox this is all limited to the Sandbox environment of Knox and my company really don't touch my phone but only the Knox environment.

One reason I will actually go back to the Galaxy series in August.

I do not think t-mobile would care, but you would not go through them for a warranty claim unless you wanted to pay your deductible.

That is what I have heard over at XDA as well. Multiple people have had warranty work done with a tripped flag with no issues.

You can also use an App like "Nine" , "Touchdown" for sandbox corp exchange, I personally love Nine

I believe OWA for Android from Microsoft does the same as well if you are on exchange 2013 or 365

As much as I love my Sammy phones, feel like I'm done with them, and the Tabs. Though my S5 is rooted and it's runs so nice and smooth (Dynamic Kat rom), it's to the point where it's too much of a pain in the ass, I couldn't even root my tablet on my Mac or even in Windows running in a VM as towelroot last summer wouldn't work for it or many others. I don't even know if you can do the newer phones with it or the updated firmware S5 etc as Geo left the dev world and appears other devs don't care much anymore either with how hard it's become to crack from their comments on XDA.

I loved the days of my S2 and basically any Android at the time, easy root and could do whatever you want with so many roms and tweaks vs for example being stuck with TW based. If anything they should at least offer the option to pay for unlocked bootloader, that would make things way better for users and devs, and more than enough people would gladly pay extra for an unlocked bootloader, I know I would.

Feel like my only choices in future will be some GPE phone, or Nexus or just go to Windows based for a change.

That's why I initially fell in love with Android. In the early days it was wide open and you could pretty much sculpt it to perfection, now that the platform has become more stable it's almost like they want you to have less of a hands on approach. Sammy was the last major player to cave in to the new Android, that's probably why I stayed with em so long.

Everyone else except for Samsung provides a method to disable the bootloader, so I don't see them giving warranty issues if Knox is tripped. Samsung is the only one who doesn't provide a method to unlock the bootloader.

I think only AT&T and Verizon are locking the bootloaders. The international, T-mobile and Sprint variants aren't usually locked.

Haven't tested Nine yet, but even OWA wants take control of my phone and encrypt it ..
