samsung lcd tv or sony bravia

Assuming we are discussing the Samsung 6 or 8 series
Both the Sony and Samsungs are nice.
I played with Samsung 850 for a couple of days and it was very nice and I would recommend it.
The other thing to consider is do you want internet functionality?
You may want to keep the display and blu ray player to one manufacturer to take advantage of their proprietary communication links.
The samsung does more than display a pretty picture. I found their interface kinda clunky. I haven't delved into whetheror not their firmware/software is upgradable via web or usb. I imagine it is.

There is an Samsung 860 as well. I think th only dfference is it comes with an extra usb port.
I've got the Samsung LN46A650 (46" LCD) in my living room and the smaller LN32A650 (32" LCD) in my bedroom... the 120 Hz feature of the larger Samsungs (40"+) rocks. I used to be a Sony guy but after comparing them to the new Samsungs, I made the switch.
Samsung TV firmware is updatable, but not over the network... you have to download it to a USB stick and then plug it into the TV. Their Blu-ray players are network-updatable (I have a BD-P1500.)

I recommend going for the Samsung 7 instead of Samsung 8 series as it has a local dimming LED backlight. I voted Samsung - i got myself a 40" Samsung 789 instead of a X4500 because the 40" Samsung Model has LED backlight (Sony X4500 from 46" and up).
I have the Sony 52" XBR4 and absolutely love it. The Samsung is nice too, I just think the Sony has just a little sharper picture and looks better mounted on a wall.
For me I couldnt tell the difference between the picture quality on the two,they're both pretty similar I think.
It just came down to which looked nicer on the outside, I chose the samsung in the end and am really happy with it. One little thing that also swung it was the glowing sony logo under the screen, I found it distracting!

I've got the 40" XBR5. I actually tried to buy the Samsung equiv, placed the order, and they couldn't get one so they gave me the Sony which was about $500 more at the time.
I think either are fine -- for most stuff you won't be able to tell the difference anyway.
To ask Sony or Samsung without getting into specific models doesn't make much sense to me. Both of these manufacturers make many different models at many different price points. What's your budget? What features are you interested in? Is there some reason you're set on an LCD, as opposed to plasma or DLP?
Many folks over at the AVS forum seem to think that Samsung has caught (or even surpassed) Sony as the best LCD. if nothing else, you will pay more for Sony and you may not be getting a better set. If money matters and you're trying to decide which way to go, I'd say Samsung. The 630 and 650 models seem to offer a lot of performance for the price (though it's been a few months since I did my research and new models have probably come out since then).

I own a Samsung M87 40" 1080P set, but I'm going to replace it with a Sony Bravia at some time in the future. Why? My entire AV rack is Sony, with BRAVIA Link functionality which half works at the moment, but I really want the whole lot to work, which needs a Sony TV.
Secondly, my Samsung has an odd flickering issue in some scenes on Blu Ray films. No idea what it is, what causes it or anything.

Forums are full of this issue for the M86/M87...
My Samsung Series 7 Display does not have the issue.
I have to agree with mchalebk, with no hint to a certain pricepoint it is more or less impossible to give advice.
sony xbr6 and samsung 850 both 52 inch, do you need model numbers? I can get them from best buy website.
Probably just your HDMI cable needs replacing.
Samsung LNT4066F owner and I love it. It's pic quality was better than it's sony comparable when I got it just over a year ago.
No it doesn't. I've tried four different ones, ranging from bargain cables to expensive ones, no difference. HDMI cables either work, or they don't.
