Samsung LED won't recognize Mac Mini

Hi, trying to get picture from early Mac Mini with the full DVI output to Samsung LED TV (series 6) via a DVI to HDMI-cable. Running OSX 10.5.8.
This setup works with another Samsung TV (LCD).

All I get is a black screen that says "format not supported- change resolution"
The TV manual presents three different output resolutions/freq from Mac computers....none works. I have tried all resolutions possible on the Mini from "display settings" and additional "fixresx-software". Nothing works, same error..

Name of HDMI/DVI-PC input of the TV has ben changed to "DVI-PC" as well as "PC" according to the manual...

Tried connecting a macbook pro with mini display port via a "mini-dp to HDMI-cable" and an older macbook vith mini DVI via a "mini DVI to HDMI-cable"...both work fine...picture and sound... can even change to different resolutions without getting the black screen..

Plugged a VGA-adapter to the DVI-output and ran a VGA cable to the TV (PC in). Works ok but icons don't fit the screen well. No problem displaying different resolutions= no black screen with VGA.....

Really want to get the HDMI setup with the Mini to work, thankful for any help!

I assume your TV is 1080p, so you are setting the resolution to 1920x1080 on the Mac Mini? What refresh rate is your TV?

Yes, it's 1080p, and I have tried resolution 1920x1080 among many other settings. Not sure what refr.rate means but i recall testing 60Hz and 75Hz (as suggested alternatives by computer) together with the 1920x1080 option.
....Or do you mean whether it's a 50Hz or a 100Hz TV? In that case it's 100Hz.

Ok, now I'm pretty sure refresh rate refers to the TV's spec 100Hz.
How does this effect my settings?

Not sure if this is responsive, but on my early 2009 Mini, the only acceptable way of syncing it to my panasonic plasma panel was by using the mini displayport to DVI adpater on the Mini and the a DVI cable into the panel. That provides proper display apsect ratios (circles are round, not ovals) and fits the screen. Going through a VGA (analog) port or adapter messed up.

Audio is via separate cables.

OK, thanks, I guess I have to settle with the VGA hook-up as it works at least.

Have you tried setting the TV picture settings to "Just scan" (instead of 16:9 or other formats)? This normally helps when connecting computers to TVs.

Also, doesn't the TV have HDMI? Why not try using just HDMI-HDMI straight from the Mini?

!...."Just scan"....haven't tried that!....makes me want to sneak home from work right now and try ;o) THANKS!

The TV has more HDMI-inputs than than i can count but the mini only outputs DVI, it's an old one (-06 I think) without the Intel CPU

DVI and HDMI are electronically identical signals, only HDMI supports HDCP. I'd advise you to buy a DVI->HDMI cable (different plugs in each end) and try with that.

For reference, this works with a G4 Mini that I have at home, connected to a Samsung LCD TV.
