I want to buy the base 13'' model.

Any way to ensure that I get a Samsung panel rather than an LG? I do plan on buying in store if that makes a difference.

Is this how it is?

Samsung > Toshiba > LG?

Some topics suggest that the samsung panel is significantly better than the LG

EDIT:

Nevermind lol

Samsung SSD > Toshiba SSD
Samsung Panel > LG Panel

So... to ensure I get both, I will just buy mine from the apple store.. open it pretty much there, check it out, then decide whether or not i want to return it.

Sure its a hassle, but from what I have read in that other topic, it seems worth it.

I really can't comprehend all the fuss over this.

There is literally no noticeable difference at all in real world use between the SSDs. Unless you feel better about yourself because a test shows your SSD has higher numbers, there is no need to change at all.

I don't see a giant difference between the screens, either. Of course this is subjective to each person's eyes - but there is not a massive difference like everyone is making it seem. Calibrate whichever screen you get correctly and you will be set.

That seems a bit much, if I worked at that store I'd tell you no. Especially if you attempt that multiple times. You are wasting their time and the companies money on having to resell things as open box. I doubt you'd even know the difference between the panels without looking up which one it is. And as someone who went from the Toshiba SSD to the OWC SSD (the same/faster than the Samsung one) you will most definitely not notice a speed difference at all.

I think that there is too much overreaction on what panel you get..
Some proper calibration is all that's needed.. Differences, after that, are not quantifiable in real life, they are both tn panels after all. Enjoy the product and don't get too concerned with fanboism cries.. :D

listen guys,

i literally have no idea about any of this. i dont know much about computers at all.

i figure most people on this forum do, so i was just going by that.

i don't think i will go through the trouble of doing it multiple times, but just for my own peace of mind, i will more than likely do it at least once. the apple store is 5 minutes away from my house.

I don't think Apple's response will be plausible either, just like how most of the people in this thread thinks you shouldn't worry about it. Don't get me wrong, but the panels don't really make any difference. Do you really think Apple will have two different companies manufacture the same panel that has different quality? I highly doubt that they will do so. Like others have said, I wouldn't fuss about the panel.
However, the SSD part... Like you said, it really depends on what drive you get. I have no idea what kind of controllers do Samsung and Toshiba uses, but generally, I would be more glad to have Samsung's instead of Toshiba (personal preferences.) If I remember correctly, some MBAs had Samsung SSDs which were faster than the Toshiba (or Hitachi?) SSDs. That's one of the reason why I prefer Samsung.

Harkening back to the 08 aluminum MacBooks, they did have three different companies make them, and the display qualities were different. One was decent, the second mediocre, and the third horrid. I took my first one down to the apple store and played the steve jobs 'focus on notebooks' keynote. The contrast was so horrid you couldn't see where the black curtain ended and the black turtleneck began; Steve Jobs looked like 'floating head CEO'.

Love everything about my 13" ultimate except the display looking a bit washed out, my 2010 11" had a gorgeous tiny little sharp screen. Not sure how big of a deal breaker this is, I'll have to lug this back down to the apple store and compare it to the displays just to make sure it's not in my head.

And this will live up to my expectations or it will get returned or exchanged. I paid premium money for this, and I will settle for nothing else but a premium product.
