So a few of my friends finally decided to start using Samsung Pay. And it actually took a demo at a restaurant and the server's shocked reaction to convince them Samsung Pay was worth using. Every time I use Samsung Pay at a non tap terminal, the reaction from the people in line or the cashier is always one of shock, and sometimes uneasy about what just happened. You often get the question, "did you just hack me?" lol. Especially when they see you put your phone alongside the terminal. It's hilarious. In Canada, terminals that don't have tap require you to insert your card. For some reason, I keep hearing how Samsung Pay won't work on these terminals. My tip to you is, they indeed do work at these terminals as well. You just need to make sure you have your phone right against the side of where you would normally slide the payment card. Works everytime. My other tip is to make sure you take advantage of the promotions. Your bank would never give you deals to use their wallet app, but Samsung does. Here's the current promo in Canada, make sure to register for it. Totally worth it.

So are these non MST terminals?
How would you normally pay by inserting your card and then putting in your pin?

We mostly have tap in Canada. But there are still many places that don't have tap. Anytime we don't have tap at a terminal, we don't swipe, we insert our debit/credit card. Walmart and Gap for example don't have tap. Also, various eateries as well have no tap. This is what you see at Walmart. No tap, we have to insert and then enter pin for purchase. But with Samsung Pay, just put your phone up against the side of the terminal where the swipe slot is. Not on top of the slot (although this could work, I've never tried it.) And it works.

Here's another example of inserting to make a purchase. Again, just put your phone on the side of the terminal and purchase done.

Ooh I’m going to try this. We have the second type. So basically you can use samsung pay everywhere that accepts cards then if this is the case.

Make sure to hold it right up against the side, actually touching it with your phone. Wait a few seconds, and as soon as you see "processing" or whatever the wording is on the screen, then you can remove your phone. The only time it won't work is if they have the swipe slot disabled, I have never run into this yet.

As long as they support the magnetic strip it should work. The North American Samsung devices (not sure about the international ones) have an MST module that can replicate the magnetic strip on the back of a credit card.

Yes, Samsung pay works like a champ, I use it everywhere. No more taking the credit cards and run the risk of being hack. This is the beauty of Samsung.
