Samsung Q6F vs MU8500 vs MU8000

With my student discount at Samsung, I have the ability to get one of these three TVs for far under $1000.

I’m looking at the:

• Q6F: 49” for $640 / 55” for $800
• MU8500: 55” for $700
• MU8000: 49” for $640 / 55” for $675

Which of these models, at what size, is the best value for the money?

I sit around 6 feet away from the TV, and I mostly use it for watching Hulu, YouTube, and Prime Video on my Apple TV, and playing my Nintendo Switch. As a reference point, I currently am using a Samsung UN32EH4003 from back in 2012.

As an owner of the Q9F, I would suggest that you get the Q6F for better color, clarity, & overall HDR performance...it has the Quantum Dot panel, plus higher brightness than the MU series.

I’m looking to purchase an UHD 4K right now too. If your sale prices are no longer available, which I was quite envious of, I’d go for the 55” MU8000. It has the larger screen and saves you money over the curved 8500. From what I’ve heard, the exterior of MU8500 looks nice but the picture quality is identical to the flat MU8000. If by chance you can get a 55” Q6F for a decent price, which is what I voted for in your poll because of the price, I’d consider it too because I think HDR content will look better.

The sale is back on now. As it turns out, I was logged out of my Samsung account. The MU8000 isn’t available anymore, and the 55” Q6F is $100 too high for my budget at $800. Guess that makes up my mind.

Note how long you ran with your last set: 6 years. $100 (over budget) divided by 6 (years) = $16.67/yr. if you keep this set at least as long, do you really want less than $17/yr over budget to drive your decision?

You buy Apple everything and none of that will probably still be usable in 6 years. This TV will out last all that Apple stuff. Are you sure you want to lock so hard to the budget? In other words, if you want the Q6F, I suggest getting it, as if it’s branded Apple.

Sell the current set to help make up the difference?

Amazon has the 55MU8500 for $759.99. This is probably what I'll be getting. My only hold back is that it doesn't have Dolby Vision. I wish I knew if the 4K DV movies in iTunes still have some HDR benefit on a 4K HDR10 TV without DV.
