Hi guys,

I want to upgrade my imac 24" with a 2gb stick of ram. I normally get my ram from crucial but have seen some samsung ram for alot cheaper, does anyone know if the samsung ram brand is good? Is it the same quality as crucial, better or worse?

Thanks

In my experience, Samsung <anything> is top quality.

Is the entire SODIMM module made by Samsung -- or just the memory chips?
If it's the latter, the module manufacturer's reputation is as important as the
chip maker's.

There are only a handful of chip manufacturers -- Samsung is a major player --
and they all have very tight quality control. OTOH, there are hundreds of module
assemblers, some with excellent QC ...and some who build junk.

If it is a Samsung original, it will have a sticker with the blue oval Samsung logo. If it is Samsung-on-third, it will have no Samsung logos, just SEC on the chips.

The Samsungs originals are good, as long as you get the DDR2-667 SODIMM modules for the intel iMacs.

The 1GB RAM installed in my new iMac received this week was made by Samsung. So it's good enough for Apple as original equipment.

Agreed, apple uses samsung ram in all their machines as far as I know so it's as good as you'll find from crucial or mushkin.
