Hello.
Some of you might know, some of you might not, but recently i had my iphone 4 stolen and since there is not much hope of getting it back, im starting to look for a replacement.

I really enjoyed iOS ( not at first, but i got very used to it and know my way around it), so if i could i would just go for another iphone. The thing is that they are not cheap and right now im undecided between 2 phones : the HTC One X (the quad core version) vs iphone 5.

Now the main thing that is making me undecisive about it is the price, because the HTC One X is 130$ cheaper than the iphone and it has good specs. The problem with it is that im not used to android anymore, i had android before but then trade for the iphone and now im really used to the iOS system and even the apps and how they are designed.

If they had no price difference i would go for the iphone 5, even though the big screen on the htc makes it interesting, im also afraid it won't make the phone easy to use with just one hand.
Im just wondering if iOS and the iphone 5 is really worth the 130$/100€ extra.

  • So help me out: between these two, which one would you recommend and why.

Thanks in advance!

if it were upto me, i would choose between a GS4 or iPhone 5.

The best thing is to try yourself. You may choose something because the internet says so, and be disappointed.

The internet says nexus 4 is the best, i have it, and i disagree.

The internet says the GS3 is meh, i had it, and i disagree, it is a fantastic device. Samsung is hated upon now because they are getting the same fame as apple. But they KNOW how to design a phone and software features around a customer, not a geek.

The internet says the iPhone 5 sucks, i have it, and i disagree. It is definitely restricted, but if i was a complete Apple user which i am not, i would have no issues using it.

Unless you try it yourself, you are only going to be disappointed.

If it's between HTC One X and iPhone 5 = I'd choose the iPhone 5

If it was between the HTC One (M7) and the iPhone 5 = I'd choose the HTC One (M7)

there is the one x and the one x+ which is newer and has better battery. is it just the standard one x because the battery life might drive you crazy.

I didn't mention it at the first post, but i don't mind waiting a bit to see whats new and i forgot about the new galaxy S4 thats about to come out. I could at least wait to see what price they put on it on my carrier.
I also forgot to mention that there is also the S3 available now just for 25$ for more than the HTC, but i didn't see much differences on them that i just went for the HTC and besides, i don't love the design of the s3.

I tried the HTC one yesterday i liked it, but it was a quick "in store" experience, i don't know how it would be actually using it everyday.

If it's between HTC One X and iPhone 5 = I'd choose the iPhone 5

Its between the X ( actually, i think its the X+ since its the quad core version). The One is not available at my carrier now.

We only have the X here, but i think the X we have here is the One X+ in other countries because its a quadcore version. Downside, it doesn't have LTE and so the speeds are not as good as the iphone or other 4g phones

iPhone 5. If you are thinking getting an HTC I would wait for the One (M7), but I would still get a 5 over that as well.

I dunno, somewhere in West Texas
Wait for the One but if you're willing to jump into android now and learn the ins and outs, go with the One X+.

HTC Sense with jelly bean under the hood is silky smooth and in my opinion, the most refined UI out there for android. I have the One X and can easily a get a full day in with battery life to spare. Also, the screen display is excellent under bright sunlight.

Even if they were at the same price point, the iphone 5 is quite behind the One X +

The HTC One seems great, but the problem is that i don't know if it will be available on my carrier right away, and most importantly, the price.
Same for the Galaxy s4, that seems awesome and what i should go for but the 5" screen seems a bit to much and hard to handle on one hand, but i will wait and see.
Im only putting these two as options because they are available on my carrier program that offers discounts using points accumulated with communications on a selected group of phones and these 2 seem the most interesting.

The OneX+ seems good but i just don't know if im ready to let go of iOS yet because i was so used to it and it might just be me but it seems that the apps usability is different on iOS, i don't know, maybe its because i feel that iOS is overall much more intuitive to use.
But to be honest iOS for me is only worth it with jailbreak, so i guess i like iOS but not as Apple intended it to be, and that gives a point to android because its more free and customizable.

Have you thought about the iPhone 4s? It would be faster than the iPhone 4 you had before and it'll be much cheaper than the iPhone 5. You could also try the Nexus 4, its $250 on the google play store, but it sounds like you want to stick with iOS.

I thought about the 4s because it would be cheaper but they didn't include it on that discount with points program i mentioned, only the iphone 5 is there. The 4s would be nice and would be cheaper than the iphone 5 that is there but the only downside is the screen that is 3.5", because even though i don't want a excessive screen that doesnt let us use the phone properly with one hand, i would like a screen bigger than 3.5". Like 4-4.5" or around.

My country doesnt have devices on the play store yet and the nexus 4 was launched finally recently here but at twice the price =/

Right now a better choice is gs3 or note 2

I can consider the s3, the difference between the s3 and the htc is small but i don't want the note, the screen is too big.

I have been reading and seeing videos about the htc one and it seems like an awesome phone. Im also curious to see the new galaxy s4, but the design and features presented of the htc are very interesting.
I still have a soft spot for the iphone though lol

But abou the htc one, does anyone know about prices? Will this new htc one replace the htc one x (in terms of price and all of that)?

I would still pick the iPhone 5, this HTC phone is impressive but I still think when it comes to quality no one beats Apple.

I don't really understand why anyone would get the HTC One. It comes with an already-outdated OS, with promises of an update to the current OS -- which will be outdated by the time it comes out (if ever)?

The HTC One im reffering now is the new one :
htc-one-unveiled.jpeg

Its the new model. But i was considering indeed the HTC One X vs the iPhone 5, and thats still "on table" but im also waiting to see at what prices the One will be released here.
Still, despite new hardware coming out now, the hardware on the OneX doesn't seem outdated to me and i assume it will handle the future updates well.

That's the one I'm talking about, too.

Handle future updates? Sure, as long as you're aware that you're going to rely on third-party developers, not HTC themselves.

The HTC One looks WAY nicer than any iPhone.

HTC have already announced Sense 5.0 with Blinkfeed etc.. Will rollout to the HTC one X and one X+

However I'd be more doubtful over whether the one x (and +) would get the eventual keylime pie OS.

Honestly i don't really liked the blinkfeed. I mean, it looks nice and well designed, but it doesnt seem to be something i would be interested in. Zoe on the other hand and all of those editing features do look great.

Right now i decided to wait a bit longer to see what my carrier does with the prices of the htc one and if its possible for me to get it. Im also interested in seeing the new galaxy s4, but i really liked the htc design and features.

If the prices are not good on my carrier or i don't see the possibility of getting the htc, i will return to the decision between the One X and the iPhone 5. On one hand im really used to iOS and i like how the system works and the apps, but what i really like and can't seem to find in other phones/OS is a keyboard like on iOS, for me its the best keyboard i have tried.
With the One X, im just afraid that i will just be getting a phone that has been on the market for a year and won't end up being able to upgrade to keylime pie in the future, even though the specs seem great and the phone is cheaper than the iphone.

So the question is back on, but this time a little different. Im not considering the htc one x anymore but the S3 because it has a home button and side unlock, which is more comfortable to me and its cheaper on my carrier now than the oneX.

Even though Samsung announced the s4 yesterday, but i don't really care for the hardware upgrades (well, the better resolution screen would be welcome but the one on the s3 seems good enough), so since we are getting most of the software upgrades, it seems that picking a s3 for cheaper would be a good deal.

The S3 im considering is the 4G LTE with quad-core and 2gb of ram, so hardware seems good and it is a bit cheaper than the iphone.

Which one would you pick?

This is now pretty much android vs iOS, but there is also some features( like nfc) that the iphone 5 doesnt have but it does have better build quality.

Im confused because i was used to iOS but in terms of specs the s3 seems to be superior. The s3 does have a huge screen and im afraid i won't adapt to it or be able to use it comfortable with one hand =/ Anyone had a hard time adapting?
