Samsung should have bought WebOS

I think Samsung missed the boat on this. WebOS truly was a fantastic OS and could have given iOS a run for it's money if done correctly. Samsung is now starting to stretch its legs and wants to become a Korean Apple. They are starting to realize that Android does not give them the ability to do this because ultimately they provide just another Android phone.

Rumor has it that they are exploring the option of building a new OS. I think this is a good move if its true. I feel Android is holding them back

The only thing holding android back is apple lawsuits.Why do you people spread this crap about Samsung not wanting android,its android that got Samsung where it is today and android is free.the only reason Samsung started working on tizan was because of apple suing them from android and needed a back up os.

the gs4 and note 3 will use jellybean and Ill bet you the gs5 will get key lime pie android 5.0 when it comes out.

why should Samsung worry about android when it can do what ever it wants with it and its free?

rumor has it lol yeah good luck with that,it took android 4 years to get where its at now and that is the reason people are buying top end phones,for the hardware and the open os.

Samsung would flop on its face worse than apple stock if they dumped android and its eco system,thats like apple using windows mobil on the next iphone.They hired cyanogen mod to help them build the base roms for the gs3 and note 2 and its literally beating the **** out of every other makers versions of android and Ill be the first to say it as Iv had 2 nexus cells that the latest touchwiz runs smoother and faster than pure asop right from google.

why would Samsung ditch all the devs that are making games and apps for android when android has like 75% world market share,thats 3 out of 4 smart phones world wide are using android.It would be suicide for them to leave android now.

It's going to be very difficult to start a new mobile OS with no App Store at this point.

I'm sure they could do it but it would take years.

Has any one who praises webos so much actually used it? While the multitasking and gestures are nice it is extremely laggy and there are no apps for it. Samsung is best off with android.

Rumour has it that you've NEVER heard of Tizen and Bada. If Samsung REALLY wants to go on their own, they'll do what Amazon did and fork android.

I owned a pre & a pre 2 and a HP touchpad....

WebOS was always a little half baked in its implementation but had lots of potential.... But it was never realised. But god it was slow to boot... 2-3 minutes...

To be honest the closest we have to WebOS now and in a much better state is BBX (Blackberry 10)....

But like all OS's including Samsung's Tizen 2 (which bare's more than a passing resemblance to Meego except it's even less polished if that's possible) they will live or die on their infrastructure and app stores.

Going forward its hard to imagine any of them taking third spot let alone Android & iOS's spots.

I had the OG Palm Pre, it was a brilliant phone and back when it was first released (2009) it was better than the Android phones of the time IMHO.

Of course it could do with more app support and some tweaks but I always had it down as a very nice OS. It's the only one that really did something new with the design too - the whole cards and gestures thing was awesome.

Ultimately it was let down by flakey hardware, bad marketing, and lack of partnerships with networks, but I think if it was given a better chance webOS would have taken off.
